If you have tried both bags, I would appreciate your experience as to comfort, warmth, durability and value for the money. Thanks.

I don’t have a WM bag but do have the SG. I hate mummy bags but sleep just fine in the SG. There is a bit more room to move and the bag stays put. I haven’t been cold yet but also use an Exped Ultra9 pad. The only thing I don’t like is the collar that runs across your neck. I like to hunker down inside and sometimes I get a little caught up in that.

I have the Sequoia. It's a roomy, cozy cocoon. One huge difference is that the Western Mountaineering bags have continuous horizontal baffles. This allows you to slide the down between the top and bottom sides of the bag to adjust temperature rating. Also WM are made in the USA. Chilkoot is made in China.

Thanks for reaching out. The Chilkoot sleeping bag is manufactured in China. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I use the chillkoot 15 with thermal nxt lite pad. I can sleep in long Johns and shirt down to 15f in a tent no problem. With my puffer coat/pants 0f also no problem. I cannot speak of the true 0 rated bag however I imagine it is toasty warm in there. I have never feared freezing to death in my SG! Best of luck.

The Chillcoot has a weird half zipper that stops too short. It needs to extend another couple of feet for comfort, entry/exit, and tip regulation. WM is a much better bag all the way around.

I will agree a longer zipper would be nice. However I only use this bag for cold weather camping.. I unzip from bottom up to cool my legs on semi warm nights. I am sure WM is better in some ways. For $400 I got my 15 which I think is a steal. I almost wish I would have got the quilt when on sale. I bet that would stretch down there with puffy clothes as well.
Chillkoot 0f ~ $500
WM sequoia 0f ~ $945
I would get the 32 quilt and have two before buying the WM..

Chilkoot 0 is $650, not $500. And made in China. That means a lot to a lot of people.

I won’t argue with buy American when you can..

europtic is where I got my pricing as I couldn’t remember how much I paid. The tag I pictured above says Vietnam. Must have switched countries. Buy whatever you want.. just thought I would point out the value and comfort of the chillkoot. Also most people won’t even spend a $1000 on their house mattress let alone a sleeping bag for a “7 day trip”.

I never owned a SG bag.

I own a sequoia and have owned several other WM bags. All are way more bag than I will ever need but none have ever left me wanting something different.

Are WM bags worth the premium prices they demand? That is up to the individual I guess but they keep making and selling them.

I have two MF bags (Antelope and MegaLite both with MF shell) and they have never let me down. While I have not yet had an opportunity to push my Antelope to its limits, I regularly do each year with my MegaLite. No issues taking it down to the low 20s and being comfy; lightweight merino top and bottom (keep bag clean and not for warmth) and my XTherm pad.

No qualms about using WM bags in a high moisture environment. Even had my MegaLite take a sustained direct hit from a multi-hour monsoon (100 dB during downpour) and then followed up by a multi-hour soak. Bag was in much better shape that you could imagine.
