I had a thought, few months back i had ordered a synthetic puffy from decathlon. It was super cheap, like $55 CAD. And it is surprisingly warm. I find it warmer than the SG grumman down i used to own. But because its so cheap, i was thinking of ordering another one, the next size up and taking it into a tailor, and seeing if they could remove the zipper from the smaller one, and then sew the larger one over top of the smaller one to make real warm jacket for glassing. I think the sleeves might bunch up so maybe make the outer one a sleeveless hoody like that new SG one, and then have that sewn over top. Anyone ever done this?

I think you would be better off leaving them separate so you can regulate temperature easier. A puffy vest paired with a puffy jacket is what I like to wear.

sounds like a neat project but I agree that leaving them separate gives you options. FWIW I have had two jackets with zip in liners that I love. One was a northface goretex jacket and the other is a casual barbour jacket. I found I prefer a vest liner to save bulk in my arms.
