Hunting a large wilderness area in Colorado few years ago. There was a burn that was well of the path. Few miles. There’s was so many guys in there the first morning we couldn’t stop laughing. One group did have a big bull down which was cool to see.

Everyone goes deep now. I’m starting to think you hunt within a mile of the trail head and you might be the only one there.

I've hunted multiple wilderness areas in CO for OTC elk. I didn't see a person for days in one, but also didn't see any elk. I couldn't avoid bumping into guys in another but saw elk everyday. Which area would you rather be in?

The way the west was divided up sometimes the wilderness areas were designated wilderness areas because the land was rough and not all that productive. Obviously, that can vary a lot with the specific area.
Getting away from the guys in cruising around in trucks hoping for an easy kill is a good idea—for the success and the overall enjoyment. But that doesn’t have to mean walking in 10 miles either
