Serrated knife

How do you sharpen a serrated knife blade? I used my Leatherman Wave serrated knife to break down the joints on a bear. I would like to touch it up. Thanks

I use the Lansky knife sharpener. They have a stone for serrated blades you can add to the kit. It takes some time but does an excellent job.

I start by not buying serrated blades for that very reason. Just always seems like a pain to sharpen compared to a standard blade. I used to have a Benchmade that I would sent back to get serviced because I hated doing it myself.

Remember that one side of a serrated blade is flat. So, you can run that on a flat stone to 'straighten' the edge to some extent. To do it properly you need a round or tapered round file that fits the size of the serrations. Sharpen the serrations first then do the flat side on a flat stone. Savvy?

There's pros and cons to serrated blades. Biggest con is the "at home sharpening".
I got away from serrated blades due to the sharpening. Even Benchmade doesn't offer a sharpening service on serrated edges.

By purchasing a non-serrated blade ;) There's FAR more utility to a plain edge blade than a serrated or partially serrated blade. Keep the non-serrated blade sharp (easy to maintain a shaving sharp edge on my Spyderco Sharpmaker) and it'll cut circles around a serrated blade.

If you must use a serrated blade, products like the sharpmaker were designed for the purpose of keeping serrations sharp. Pick one up and learn to use it and you should be able to get it serviceable.

Just touched up my Spydie PM2 Purple DLT Trading Exclusive in Cruwear on Monday, took me all of about 2 minutes to take it from dull to shaving sharp. Make the switch, you'll be a happy man ;)

Man I love a sharp serrated knife, but I know how to keep them razor sharp
i carry both a PE & SE edc
watch this video and enjoy a sharp serrated blade

Why? not bashing, just curious for your reasoning. You can easily take an animal apart at the joints with a pocket knife. You arent cutting the bone, just ligaments unless you are cutting in wrong spot.

Speedy sharp works great for a variety of blades. About 11 bucks on Amazon.

Have you used a straight edge for that before? Serrations may help, but are definitely not necessary for that task.
