I inherited a Luger/Stoeger shotgun. No user manual. I’ve never owned or operated a semi auto shotgun. After loading, do I hit the “shell lifter” release button? When I hit this button it drops another shell out of the tube.

Not sure the purpose of this button.

Let’s say you have shell in the pipe. You rack the bolt, ejecting the shell. This action alone won’t allow a new shell from the tube to enter the action. Hitting the button lets a shell into the action (which you’ll need to rack into the barrel)

No reason to hit that button under normal shooting/operation

With an empty uncocked gun, you should be opening the bolt (which stays back by itself), load a shell into the action, hit the side button, which closes the bolt, THEN add shells to the magazine/tune

Thank you! Haven’t had a chance to get out and shoot it yet.

You should have:
-safety button.
-bolt release button
and a
-shell catch/lifter button.

What you are showing us is the catch/lifter button. And as mentioned above, it drops a shell onto the lifter from the tube. Only needed if the chamber is going to remain empty and you want to load the lifter prior to racking it into the chamber.

Under normal fire the trigger mechanism will trip the lifter/catch mechanism to automatically load the lifter when pulled.

If you are going to start shooting right away do the following: safety on, load chamber, drop bolt, load magazine, flip safety off and start shooting.

If you are going to be walking around with an empty chamber, but want to be able to start shooting quickly do the following: safety on. Empty chamber. Load magazine. Then later hit the lifter/catch button when ready to fire, rack bolt, flip safety off, aim and fire.
