Selling Used Suppressor in 2026?

I'd let go of a gunwerks six+ TI
Maybe a couple others? Just never figured the cost of the transfer would be worth it, but now it might be.
Works fine, light, just been using it on a 22ARC, and want to try the airlock nano. Should've ordered that one today

Can someone briefly explain why 2026 private party transfers have to be in state?

I don't think they have to be, but if it's across state lines, you have to transfer to a dealer first, then the dealer transfers to the buyer. So likely the dealer in the middle will charge transfer fees twice, once to each party.
Someone may have more details, but that was my expectation.

They don’t, but the cost and logistics involved are less. If it’s out of state you have to transfer to your dealer, they transfer to the buyers dealer, then the buyer has to transfer from the dealer.

In state you just need to transfer from one member to another. I assume if you use a silencer shop dealer to file, your dealer will charge for use of the kiosk. Some may not want to deal with it.

You could do paper forms no issue in state without a middle man, I assume eforms as well.

So what are the actual steps for an in state transfer? Do we basically print out a form, do fingerprints mail it in and wait?

Where can we get the forms? Can we do it online?

I wonder what the turnaround will be like if it’s on paper? That could be a barrier to used sales. If it’s going to take a year or more like it did not long ago, I don’t see it being viable for most. Would take a pretty steep discount for me to pay someone for a used can that I couldn’t legally take possession of for who knows how long. I hope we get a viable used can market out of this, but I’m not sure we’re there.

Seems like there is an opportunity for some company to buy and then resell used cans - with a bigger haircut charged to the seller than in a direct resale to a buyer.

You’ll need a form 4 specifically. Fill it out, fingerprints, photos, mail it in. There is eforms (I just looked at my eforms account and it seemed pretty straightforward to do a transfer between individuals). Current owner retains possession until it’s transferred and your $0 stamp is approved.

I actually saw on fb that individuals would be able to efile in private party sales going forward (It was on FB so it has to be true )

The process for selling/tranferring used cans hasn't changed. Even though the tax stamp cost has been removed, I just don't expect people in general will be jumping on used cans from unlicensed people unless it's a screaming deal.

How many unlicensed people are interested in submitting Form 4s and waiting for buyers to have their background check complete, and possibly find out the buyer is denied? Don't forget to notify your local LEO that you applied for a can.

I hear you but in my case, I have a few folks lined up for a few of my silencers. As it happens they are ones that havnt been used in awhile so I don’t really care if they are sitting there another few weeks (hopefully) or months.

Time will tell as things actually start happening.
