Selling Used Suppressor in 2026?

I think it’s going to be a headache. Nothing has changed in the process, just the price. I don’t see dealers doing this for free. I don’t know if we can transfer individual to individual maybe someone can inform us but I’m not sure how that would work.

You’d have to do a paper form 4 when transferring from individual to individual and the buyer would have to live in the same state . That’s how it is under the current rules anyway .

Since some have mentioned theirs in here, I’ll likely consider offloading my omega 36m. Live in MT. Just bought it before I knew much about suppressors. Nice can but too heavy for the gun I’m using it on.

Well, let’s talk after the new year as I’m hoping to get rid of both cans for pennies on the dollar.

I do agree with you in that I don’t think the process will change (minus the $200)…but I have a smaller sliver of hope it will be simplified in some way, shape or form.

It will still be a two step process I think, just saves the taxes. My understanding when I briefly looked at selling one, was it had to be a form 4 to dealer, then another form 4 to buyer. So will actually be saving $400. If you could do it for 200, I think there would be at least a little market for higher end cans, but $400 plus whatever the dealer wants for the hassle it’s just not viable.

Dealers are still going want to be paid for the hassle. I wouldn’t be surprised if what ends up happening is some dealers buying used cans and/or taking them on trade.

It’s a 1 step process , you never needed to use a dealer for a private party form 4 transfer (if the buyer and seller live in the same state )

Just adding this to the convo for information. I was just in Scheels and spoke with them about facilitating private party transfers of supps - they already have my fingerprints on file, etc.

They don’t and are not planning on doing private party transfers.
