Anyone out ther have experience with the Gen 5 G 20 and think it is worth the upgrade. Or not? Maybe I should just get another 9mm since that’s what I shoot the most and carry? Any thoughts?

I had the gen 4 for 7-8 years, I carried it everywhere. Every hike, boat ride, camping trip, hunt, even out walking the dogs in the woods. I absolutely loved my gen 4 and had zero complaints about it.

I got my hands on the gen 5 though and knew right then and there I was ready to make the switch. I got my gen 5, put trijicon sights on it, and havn’t looked back.

The only downside which I didn’t know at the time of the purchase is that all those gen 4 haters I had would not fit the gen 5. Luckily my buddy who bought my gen 4 wanted all of that stuff.

I’m not adding anything here. Just have been looking at Glock 20 and 29’s recently as well as other 10MM Options.

May potentially be interested in your 20!

I have an Lipseys FDE Glock 20 for sale on Gun Broker. I love the caliber but need a lot more reps to be proficient. I have carried it for years during archery season and I’d like to upgrade to a Gen 5. Anyone out ther have experience with the Gen 5 G 20 and think it is worth the upgrade. Or not? I'd go for the Gen 5, Glock is likely going to start throttling back the gen 4s.

Ive shot gen 3, 4, and 5 (all in 9mm though), and unless you hate finger grooves I would not consider a gen 5 to be more than a $30 upgrade

To muddy the waters, my favorite is actually the gen 3!

The gen 5 has an updated/upgraded barrel I believe. And the g20 (not sure about others) comes ready to accept an RMR if you want one. Also a more beveled may well and forward cocking serrations.

everything you say is true, and I stand by my comment

The front slide serrations remain the only thing I found to be a meaningful upgrade

EDIT: I take it back, the serrations are worth $50 to me

I have a Gen 3, I like it a lot. I handled a Gen 5, but for me, not worth upgrading. Nothing wrong with what I have, like the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I had a couple of 9mm gen 5s with some teething issues. One replaced trigger group, the other was a 19 with an extraction issue that went back to glock twice and was ultimately replaced under warranty.

I wouldn’t mind having a dot on my g20 but I am going to stay with gen 4 for now.

Its one of those things....

I shot a Gen3 with abandon for 19 years and then I got a Gen5 34 for competition and now I'm switching all my Glocks to Gen5.

For me, the finger grooves do not fit and the lack of them on the Gen5 is a profound upgrade.

It reminds me of canoeing at a livery. The paddle is too short. The life jacket is tight and rubs your neck. You still have a good time but given the chance you upgrade those items.

On the 9 mm models, they offer a different model with and without. I am hoping that they soon offer a G20 without it.

It dosent cause any issues but I get it, if I had the choice, I'd probably skip it but sometimes I think it would be cool to put an RMR on it.

There is about $100 in cost saving, too.

It appears that the G22 and G23 (40 S&W) are also available in non-rmr. However, the G21 (45 ACP) is not. If the Gen 5 release is any indicator, the non-rmr G21 will be coming before the G20 one does.

It would be cool if they did release it but I', not sweating it, there really isnt any downside to having the RMR ability.

I'd rather save the $100 on a non MOS version and spend ~$150 on a real slide milling job

Not sarcasm, I didn't like MOS. It sits a tenth inch taller than a milled slide, and it is more prone to loosening

I paid 599 for my Glock 20 gen 5. I don’t see them having a 499.00 version in todays market. I could be wrong though, I guess I’m not clear how you determined glocks cost for that work or if you’re just figuring what other companies charge to do it.

Also, what do you mean 1-10th of an inch taller? Do you mean when you put an adapter plate there? Mine is flush with the rest of the slide.
