I'm in for replies. I also have this problem with eight or so in a pile. I enjoy bear hunting a lot and can't make myself leave the hides in the woods but I also don't know what to do with them. Unfortunately, I have not kept most of the tags, so there could be issues there.
Some taxidermists buy tanned skins but you need to check if legal to sell them in your state
. Each state may vary so I would contact your conservation officer to see what he/she says to start. Also, the age of the tanned skin will determine if it is mountable or just usable for a wall hanger, older tanned skins sometimes don't work out for mounting.
If bear hides are tanned, your good to go to sell them. I see them selling for $300-500 consistently, for an average size black bear. Bigger bears with color phase go higher.
