I'm looking at different mid options, and I like the light weight and the modularity of the Lil Bug Out by Seek Outside. The idea of having two people (me and the wife) under the base in a nest with gear and dog under the vestibule is pretty appealing. However, most comments on the Seek Outside website say the 2-person nest is pretty tight for two.

I know that "tight" means different things for different people. Would it be tight for two married people who are used to sleeping in two-person backpacking tents?

I know the one entrance makes it seem even more cramped, but this will primarily be a backpacking shelter and not for car-camping when we want luxury. Another option we've thought about is the BT-2 nest, which has two doors and apparently works with the LBO as well as the BT-2. Two doors is nice, but a pole between the two sleepers is more of a bummer. Everything in life is a tradeoff, I guess.

I have the SO nest and although I have only used it solo, I wouldn't have a problem using it with my wife. It probably depends more on how big you guys are as to how comfortable you'd be in it. I'm 5'8" and 160#, my wife is 5'2" and about 105#.

My wife and I have spent a couple hundred nights in the mount laurel designs duo inner tent (used in our SL-5 and other tipi style shelters since 2010).

As you can see from the specs its 90"LX48"WX46H and we never felted that crammed in it mainly cause we only go in it to sleep really. If its raining and such we are in the outer poriton of our pyarmid shelter so we don't gotta sit on our bags and pads and such. Which is a great reason to buy a shelter larger than you think you might need as a 9.5'X9.5' pyramid style shelter is nice when you have days of bad weather and don't have to lay in or on your bed the whole time.

Anyways, the Seek outside nest is 4" wider and 4" taller than the mount laurel designs duo inner tent so I think it'd be just fine for you and your wife. Heck I even squeezed in the MLD one a couple times with a buddy when I failed to pack the right nest along......we made it work but as a nest for two guys to consistently use I would rather just use two TI goat bivies or such. For me and my wife I prefer the 2 person nest. I would say for your uses you stated being its for you and your wife then I would buy the SO nest with confidence.
