Seekins PH3 vs Suppressed Tikka

I’m in the market for a new 6mm deer/antelope hunting rifle and need some help deciding which direction to go. I have a $2000 budget for the rifle. I already have the scope.

Option 1 is to buy a Seekins PH3 6 CM. I’ve wanted a Seekins for years and handle them every time I walk into Scheels. The new 20” barrel option on the PH3 has me pretty excited.

Option 2 is to wait for Tikka to release their threaded factory barrels and also purchase a suppressor. I have never shot a rifle suppressed or been around one, so I don’t know what I’m missing, but I’ve read so many good things. For the Tikka, I may wait for them to hopefully release a threaded 6 CM but if not perhaps purchase an 8 twist .243. I have other Tikkas and they just shoot. I also like to tinker with aftermarket mods. I reload so I could take advantage of the heavier bullets in the .243.

Both options will cost me my entire $2000 budget. Is shooting a suppressed Tikka worth giving up my dreams of owning a Seekins?

What suppressor are you looking at? Obviously things add up quick but you could also just go with the seekins and save a bit for the can. You don't HAVE to get a $1k+ suppressor, there's some decent options in the $600 range.

Also, I'm a very firm believer in buy once cry once. The suppressed Tikka would be fantastic, but if you know deep down you'd still kinda want the Seekins, just go that route. Alternatively, save up and buy both :)

Secure a can first. I personally won’t ever go back. Being as drawn out as the process is, spring for a quality can now so you aren’t kicking yourself later (me). I’d sell other rifles to free up funds if thats what it takes to get what you really want. Just my 2 cents

The answer is yes. I've seen off the shelf Tikkas that just flat out shoot. And once you start shooting suppressed you'll never want to go back. I've gotten to the point where I cringe every time someone beside me at the range shoots without one, especially with a muzzle break.

I think shooting suppressed is something you’ll wish you would’ve done sooner. That should be the goal. In regards to the rifles. I have had a few threaded tikkas and have two ph2s. I would go the seekins route. I haven’t really touched my custom tikka since getting the seekins. Save up if you have to. It’s a better rifle unless you want to tinker and make changes to the tikka.

Appreciate the replies. I’m leaning towards the PH3 and saving for a suppressor down the road.

“Once you go suppressed you don’t go back”

Get the suppressor and then see where your bank account is at for the rifle.

Good news is I don’t think there is a bad choice.

I thought about getting a Seekins in 223, but I don’t think they offer that caliber. I will probably wait for the factory threaded tikka and go that route. After you buy a chassis for the tikka they are probably similar in price.

Here's the problem, you'll always want the seekins. It's a sweet rifle no doubt. But the real issue is that you NEED a suppressor. The one you're looking at is legit. A Dilligent enticer would also fit the bill as little cheaper.

If it has to be one or the other, the suppressor is the variable that will change your experience the most so I say tikka and can. However, I'm also an advocate for getting the seekins if you can sell another gun and fund the can.

I promise that once you get a can, you will get more. Those old rifles that aren't sentimental and are difficult to get threaded, they won't get shot so maybe clear some of those out?

I am a buy once cry once guy. I know that if I buy the Tikka that I will always wish I had purchased the PH3. Nothing against the Tikka, I have others and really like them, but I just flat out want a PH3. My biggest issue is that I’ve never shot a rifle with a suppressor or been around one in use. That is the missing piece for me. I have no idea what it would do for my hunting and shooting experience. A $1000 is a lot of money for me. All I have to go on is everyone telling me that once you shoot suppressed you’ll never go back and you’ll wish you had done it sooner. I get that and don’t doubt it at all. Getting that input is what I asked for from you all. Unfortunately I don’t have any guns that I can part with at this time to fund a suppressor as I don’t have any safe queens. Decisions decisions…

I would spend the money on a suppressor first and then save up for the Seekins. Seekins makes a good rifle, but not sure it is $1150 better than a SS Tikka.

In regards to the suppressor, the Dead Air Nomad 30 may be 4 oz heavier than the XC, but with a good rifle/optic setup, you really aren't going to feel the difference considering it is your first one.

I threaded my tikka t3x lite in 308. Put a nomad ti xc on it. It shoots incredibly. I believe it is more accurate now than before suppressed. The harmonics appear not to change as much when the barrel warms up. I think my entire setup costs significantly less than just the seekins rifle. Not sure what else I can ask from a gun. Maybe not the same wow factor but the gun just shoots.

With that said, go with what warms your heart. For me it's my tikka. She has provided a lot of great memories, with many more to come.

If you've already got a gun you can feasibly hunt with now (and is hopefully threaded) then get the suppressor first.

If not then get the gun first.

I don't think I'll ever hunt without a can again (other then for novelty...i.e. m1 garand, flintlock, etc).

I bought a thunderbeast ultra 9 without having ever shot a suppressor. No regrets. It's been awesome. Hearing the bullet thwomp on critters is great.

Suppressor is the way to go. Buy the can first and thread one of your current rifles. Save up the amount you need for either a Tikka or Seekins in the future.
