Seekins opinions?

I'm considering buying the new Seekins PH3 later this year. I've seen the PH2 at my local Scheels and have to say the action didn't feel all that smooth... It actually felt kind of sticky. I wasn't sure if it was something in the store or not... The Tikka actions felt just fine. What has been your experience with the Seekins action?

Also, they had the Seekins Element on hand and I was amazed at how light that rifle was! Is it worth the extra money for the Element over the PH series?

How about accuracy?

Up until tonight I had planned on buying the new Element in a 6cm, love the seekins I've been around and felt. But now I'm building a 6arc howa mini for my new western big game gun. 😂

If you're willing to wait, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. Plus, they're made in Idaho!

I am waiting on the weight of the new Element. I am working hard to have a rifle under 8 lbs all in.
Just purchased a Tikka Lite compact from Eurooptics. We will see if it makes weight.

The PH2 Element would at 5.5 lbs. I really want to see the PH3’s weight before I commit to that much of an investment. Also want to know who will make aftermarket barrels for it. I want skinny steel. I can’t justify a switch barrel and then have to pay $1000 for a new barrel.

I was able to handle one of the new PH3's at the Expo. I was impressed with the action. The throw was nice and short. It was much smoother then other PH2 actions I have handled. Still not Tikka smooth, but that particular action impressed me.

Agreed. It's also light. I own an element and the weight didn't feel much different.

Yeah for sure, that 1/4lb extra is going to ruin your chances to kill anything.

I've had 2 Seekins rifles and both have shot very well. Picked up an Element in 6.5 PRC last summer and have been very impressed with it, especially with factory ammo. Pretty sure it's the rifle I'll take to the NWT for Dall next summer.

I'm interested to see the PH3 - the shorter bolt throw would be nice for clearance. My Element bolt hits the throw lever on my NX8 at highest mag (first world problems, right?)

I’ve shot my PH2 in 300 win mag at several elk. It feeds fast and positively enough that it never jams and I don’t even notice it.

As for accuracy, it pretty much eats anything within reason.

Seekins shoot fine and come in configurations that people like. But every one I’ve cycled has felt worse than a howa. Their preternatural ability to bind with anything other than perfect forward pressure is honestly impressive. I am excited to see what changes they made to action cycling with the 3rd gen.

They smooth out. Their long action is so long that you’re asking a lot to not having any sort of binding.

Well my biggest concern is that there are multiple others that feel far better and they are in the same circumstances - Browning, Tikka, bergara, etc.

But you are saying that the seekins do get better?

Those rifles in long action configuration are not as long as the Seekins long action. The tikka especially so. A tikka action is a relatively short “long” action. The howa/weatherbys are built to accommodate a 300 bee and are relatively long but mine are not as smooth as a broken in Seekins. I have a semi-custom vanguard that I love so I harbor no hate towards howa actions. Mine have been fantastic.

But, Yes, ph2s get smoother than what you feel in the store but it’s not “custom action smooth” either so you shouldn’t expect it to be. However, it has a much better stock than those listed, it is properly bedded (by hand), and comes with fantastic customer service. Everything in that price range comes with some compromises so they aren’t perfect but I love mine. I sold a tikka to buy the Seekins and wouldn’t go back unless I was planning to ditch the factory stock and bottom metal. Fwiw I like tikkas, they are smooth and the trigger/action definitely has its advantages over the 700 derivatives (so don’t flame me, yall)

You mentioned bergara. My dad has a premier bergara and it’s absurdly accurate but required bedding and suffered light primer strikes. We found the issue and resolved it easily. It’s very smooth and generally a great rifle, despite the monikers used on this site. Sample of 1, but thought I would share.

I would skip the browning but that’s just me.

I’ve got the ph2 and really like the gun. It shoots Hornady eld-x great. I’m not a custom gun or hand load guy so to have a gun that shoots so well without having to hand load was great and didn’t want to drop the gun on a custom gun either.

Would highly recommend

I have an element and ph2, both shoot great, I’m happy with both. The ph2 is smooth (SA), element isn’t the smoothest and can have some bind but it’s a 5.5lbs full featured rifle, there are trade offs. I’m happy with it.

I personally have owned three and my son in law has one. Out of the four, they have all been very accurate and reliable.
Not the smoothest or most ergonomic but a nice rifle that shoots great for a fair price.
