Looking at standard seek outside stoves for 4 man tipi. Curious about size choice for tent this size, burn times, use in various temps . Good , bad and the ugly. Your experience and suggestions. Thanks

There is not much to say bad or ugly. It's a good stove. The bigger it is the less you will have to fill it, but even the XL burns quick with the dead pine we have around here and don't expect it to keep you warm all night. A few hours if you pack it full and damp it down.

I would always go with the largest stove that they recommend for the tent. Even a big stove requires lots of tending but less than a smaller stove. A 4-man tipi is a lot of space so it will just take practice to find the sweet spot of laying there putting wood in it to get comfortable.

I have a Redcliff with a large U-Turn stove.

I have a large that I use in my 4 man and lbo. No complaints. Part of the fun is keeping it fed since you’re not really doing anything else when in the tent and helps with boredom. Burn times are highly subjective. In my areas, I’ve used pine, cedar, aspen, and willow, none of which are great. I hesitate to say how long a hot filled stove will last but in the best of conditions it’s less than an hour, usually like 30 min. When feeding little stuff it’s less than that. Wood prep is easy so I don’t worry much about feeding it, and you are not using it for nighttime warmth when sleeping, that’s what your bag/pad combo is for. I use a small uturn in my silex now.

Looking at large vs xl. Feeding the stove sticks/ branches. You guys ever get coals and put in 4-5 inch stuff cut with a small hand saw you couldn't break with your hands. What's the biggest size diameter burn ?

I have a SO LBO tent with a medium. Burn times of maybe 30 minutes with subpar fuel. Felt like i was more or less feeding it constantly but was nice to have. I don't make fires in the morning, just evening. Little tricky to put together at first but not terrible once you get it down. If you're not careful your hand get super sooty!
