I’m looking to move from the Outdoorsmans pack to a Goshawk before this upcoming elk season. It’s a ton lighter. Any negatives on the Goshawk that anyone knows of? Thanks.

No negatives (I work for SO, so I'm biased...), but I'd caution you to think about what you want from an organization standpoint. The Goshawk doesn't have a lot in its' base form. I ran one last season with a top lid and base talon and it worked very well. The rolltop packbag with bottle pockets, side zip, and a base talon has been popular since our start so it's proven. If you're a bladder user and need pockets for spotter and tripod then a different style packbag may be a better fit.

Like mentioned above, the only possible negative would be if you need lots of pockets and zippers for organization. I use to be pretty OCD about having every item in a specific pocket or location, but I have really come to appreciate the simplicity of the Goshawk. Headlamp in the belt pocket, calls and wind checker in my bino pouch, and most everything else goes in the main bag. Just zip it up and go.

I have a bino holder that will hold a couple of my smaller items, and my orange vest has several pockets. I want to use the Merlin on the Goshawk for any additional organizational needs along with several small, medium and larger stuff sacks that may also be needed. Thanks for the intel.
