Seek outside divide

Looking to hear from people that have used this pack. Nothing specific, just curious. I'm strongly considering a purchase.

It’s an awesome pack. It was my first SO pack and bought it on a whim. I was going to sell it before using it but decided against it. Good thing I didn’t because I am 100% sold on them now. It carries like a dream and I love not needing a pack cover. The gatekeepers abs straps are awesome in that you can strap anything to the outside easily and really cinch it down

What kind of hikes have you been on with it? I'm honestly looking at it as a thru/section hike pack. I realize it's not as ul as some packs but for that extra pound I love the waterproof, toughness and external frame aspects. As well as a pack that can do four season duty.

I'ts been my primary pack for the past year, and I love it. Mostly use it on 3 to 4 day at a time section hikes on the AT. Recently took it through the Grand Canyon on a rafting trip over 15 days and it performed well. I'd have no qualms about planning a thru hike with it.

It was a dory trip. I took it because I didn't know how much hiking we'd be able to do during the day. It stayed on the big raft during the day with the other bulk gear. Got drenched at every rapid and never had any water inside the bag.
I'll be selling all my other packs and frames. This and the Brooks 7400 will cover anything on my to do list for the next few years.

Very nice. I don't mountain hunt in the winter so 4500 is probably bigger than ill ever need.

I'll suggest another route. How about getting the Fortress or Goshawk 4800 on the Revolution platform. Then you could separately buy a Peregrine bag. In the alternative, you might even consider getting a ZPacks cuben-fiber (Dyneema) airplane bag which is voluminous and weighs only 3.3 oz. Remove the Goshawk bag and replace it with the ZPacks. That would give you volume and a lot of weight loss for through hikes.

I have to say that I am a backpacker and do not hunt. Most would say there is no reason to use the Revolution platform versus the Integrated platform. I disagree. For a few oz penalty, I get to quickly switch out bags or remove the bag and load wood without damaging a bag.

I looked at that, saw something similar in another thread. But the frame with the z packs bag attached weighs as much as the divide.

The Revolution frame weighs 2lbs 9oz. and the Zpacks bag you're substituting weighs only 3.3oz. A grand total of 2 lbs 12oz.

The Divide weighs 3lbs 4oz, so you're saving 8 oz and you have have two bags. If you go with the lighter Alpine Grey Divide you'll save 5oz.

In either case you'll save weight, have two bags, and have breakaway capability.

Ah yeah I see that now. I still don't see a scenario where I would use the z packs bag to replace the divide, or want to use a bag as heavy as the peregrine or gosshawk. I'm not using it for hunting, just section/thru hiking.

I understand completely. I do not hunt and use my Revolution Fortress 6,300 strictly for hiking/backpacking so weight was a factor.

In my case, the weights were a tad closer comparing the Unaweep 6,300 to the Fortress 6,300 especially when removing the lower horizontal stay (the Unaweep has one while the Revolution has two). In that case, I couldn't justify not having the breakaway capability for 2-3oz. I think in your case it would be 7.5oz comparing the Goshawk to the Divide.

Hey a quick note --- nothing wrong with the divide for hunting . Yes the features are more backpacking but I've done a few pack outs where the divide was used ... and in fact , archery has been rough so by mid week I may go high and deep and if I do the divide will be my choice . You have to wrestle a load of meat into the bag is the only drawback ... but after enough vertical and miles the drawbacks are minimal

I think if I needed a bigger bag I'd go that route. As it is I'm using a 50l pack with room to spare.
