Hey Guys,
I am really interested in the SO Brooks pack. Have been for quite some time. Right now my only drawback is that I am a bit confused on how to properly haul meat without getting the rest of my gear soaked in blood.

I know a lot of you guys like to pack meat inside the bag... this is a foreign concept to me and hasn't been an option on either of my bags.

How do you keep the inside of the bag clean? If I shoot a deer/elk and head back to camp with a quarter inside the bag (in a game bag) how do I make sure my sleeping bag and tipi don't get dirty? I like to take quarters out bone in.

I really appreciate the help. I am a complete noob at this.

I think the easiest answer would be to put the quarter in a trash compactor bag when it is in the pack, and then pack the rest of your stuff around it. I haven't packed meat with mine yet, but I have trained with a sand bag in the internal load shelf and there is quite a bit of room below the load shelf. As long as the meat wasn't dripping with blood, I would think there would be minimal contact between your sleeping bag and the quarter. You can also fit a lot of stuff in the outside long pockets, so that should keep much of your stuff away from the meat. This all depends on how much stuff you bring in with you.

Meat in good game bags isn't that drippy. After the meat skins over it isn't very drippy at all.

Trash bag for gear in bottom of the pack, rest of your day gear in the side pockets. Most sleeping bags have a ripstop or dwr stuffsack anyway, but you could replace with a UL waterproof one.

Any blood on the inside of the XPac will come off with a sponge...it won't stick.

Getting everything inside the bag means the load is vertical and all of it is close to your back, so if you're coming out in one trip (think sheep hunt) then this is preferable because it gives you good balance and center of gravity.

Breakaway carry as on a Revolution keeps gear cleaner and is very convenient, but if you're doing a long haul you don't want a large percentage of the weight distant from your back.

I have always dropped my game bag full of meat into either a lightweight dry bag or a seam-sealed Kifaru Meat Baggie before putting it in my pack. Both do a good job keeping everything else clean.

I called SO on Monday to see about buying a Brooks bag with a Revo frame. I was told they were about 6 weeks away from that combo becoming a reality. I was teetering back and forth between the Brooks and Broadwing.
I told them to call me when available and I will buy one. I even set my cell calendar to remind me so I can call back in six weeks.
