SE WI/NE IL Battle Buddy

Long time listener first time caller. Looking for a hunting buddy/group that’s looking for one extra guy for an elk trip in the coming years. I’ve never gone out west; it’s always been something I’ve wanted but life kept getting in the way. Thoughts are to get to MT, ID, CO to start, but would start stacking WY points with group coordination. I’m 30 years old, been married a couple years, but my wife would say I spend more time in the boat chasing salmon and walleyes or in the woods bowhunting. I hunt a bit of public land in IL but mostly hunt Walworth and Kenosha counties since there’s not much around here and I go to the northwoods for the annual rifle hunt.

If I were in your shoes (I was) I would build points in every state possible, regardless of group coordination, never know what the future will bring.

That’s what I’m beginning to do now. There’s always the option to go solo DIY or go with an outfitter.

I went solo DIY for my first hunt. It was intimidating at first, but I’m glad that I did it. I almost exclusively hunt solo, due to not having others to go with right now. Open to talking more about potentially organizing a hunt. Feel free to pm me

If my wife didnt worry so much I would do solo trips from IL where I live. I've done a few guided and they are fun and much better odds of filling your tag. I am building points/cash for a 2026 hunt. Probaby diy solo. Hopefully some sort of sat com or tracking will ease her mind. Or maybe a bigger life insurance policy. LOL. Good luck finding a partner. Im probably to old and slow to help a 30 year old.
