For those that are in, might wanna check your credit card statements. I have a pending charge from go outdoors South Dakota, but when I go check the website or my email, nothing yet. Looks like I’ll be in South Dakota come November chasing rutting bucks

That’s the preference point charge, although strangely I haven’t been charged for the point for the black hills draw that came out last week. I have a $286 charge pending

I have a pending charge for $286 on mine as well. Still says N/A for an awarded tag though. Hopefully that is good news.

Our group was unsuccessful for West River Deer. 6 points averaged (9+7+2). Maybe next year

South Dakota does not average out your points, so you entered the draw with 2 points
Yes. I got confused between states with a bunch of applications. Won't make that mistake again. Hopefully someone else can learn from this.

Spur of the moment I decided to put in for West River Special Buck this year. Drew, which is good...because I actually forgot about West River deadline.

So this year, I'll be chasing west river white tail, but I'll have a more flexibility in where I'm hunting.
(On the upside...last year there were 3 nice white tail in teh area I usually go)

West River special buck for white tails has been a 100% draw with 0 points for years. I used to often buy leftovers
And that was the reason I "applied"
After drawing 3 years in a row, I assumed my chances would be less than ideal for typical draw...and judging by my dad and sister both striking out...I was right.
Looked at the number of tags and assumed correctly that it would be a slam dunk.

That said...I probably won't ever apply for it again.

If you have private land to hunt, special buck is great. Not sure where you're from, but residents can get them after the first draw, so I would always put in for the general west river tag, and if i didnt get that have special buck as second choice. Best of both worlds.
