Hi all,
I’m planning to be hitting it hard this fall for a wolf hunt in northern Manitoba. I know the densities are high up here but had trouble last year actually locating wolf sign etc.
Any tips on areas to scout before the season begins? There’s a massive amount of public land up here (boreal forests with large amounts of lakes and rivers), most of which you have to be creative to access.
Should I be focusing on linear features such as clear cuts made by transmission lines etc or focus on areas with access to water?
My plan is to find areas with a decent amount of sign and place some cameras around. If I get some sightings I will hit it during the season with hand and electronic callers.
I saw scat (which I would say is wolf based on the hair content?) very recently on a ~10 mile trail leading to a lake which will likely be my starting point.
Apologies that this is a generic question but just looking to see what has worked for others.
Thx
