Hi,
I just picked up a 2012 Kimber 8400 Ducks unlimited edition in .300 Win Mag new in he box UN-fired. I am thinking about putting on a 4x16x44 Sig Whiskey 4 scope with Sig Alpha 6 rings or Tally Rings. I am unsure on height? Med or High ?

Thinking about 2 Piece Warne Base.

I am open to other options, Honestly I have no real plans at teh moment for the rifle but would like to take it on a out west hunt at some point and just want to have it out fitted and ready to go. Thanks

Ammo selection I know it is what the rifle likes but I am looking at 180 to 200 Gr Barnes or Hornady ELDX.

Do I have this in the wrong sub forum?
Not necessarily, though you might get more traction in the regular firearms section.

It's kind of hard to know where to steer you, that Sig scope is an unknown for me. I'd definitely start with the scope drop tests at the top of this section. They'll point you to some well-proven reliable options. Not knowing what your background/experience is or what you already own, my first inclination is to recommend a first focal plane MIL scope. I made the switch from MOA a few years ago and my only regret is not doing it sooner.

Specific recommendations would be a SWFA 3-9 or Maven RS1.2 2.5-15, or maybe a LRHS2 4.5-18. if you're dead set on SFP, the Trijicon Credo or NF SHV are solid options.

No specific rail/base recommendations for that rifle, but whatever you do you'll want to bed/epoxy it to the receiver. Warne Mt Tech or NF UL rings would be my go to's.

On bullet selection, I don't have a lot for you. I went a lot smaller for my all-around deer/elk/bear rifle a couple years ago (from a 7mmRM shooting 180 Bergers to a .243AI with 109 ELDM's). I would probably try to use the 200 ELDX in your shoes, but I really don't have much use for heavy stuff anymore. I can get excellent terminal performance out to ranges 99.99% of us have no business pulling the trigger on an animal, half the recoil, ability to spot my own impacts suppressed instead of needing a brake.

Not trying to tell you what to do, just giving my own experience. If you're really attached to that Kimber then rock on, but a LOT of us here have gone to much smaller cartridges, killing big critters at long ranges (and short), and have no desire to go back to the .300WM/7RM/PRC's we switched away from.

Your twist rate may or may not stabilize those long barnes bullets. Good news is a 300wm shoots lighter bullets awesome also. If you are going barnes the speed is needed more than the eldx. As far as scopes and rings you can find a lot of information here by using the search section. Good luck

Twist is 1:10 I believe. I have plenty of options for calibers 30-06 and below and ( I have a fairly decent collection) I have always wanted a .300 Win Mag ( Not a need more of a want ) I Probably will only hunt with it a couple times and it'll spend most of its life in a safe.

I have scope from different manufactures, I have outfitted my last couple rifles with the Sig scopes and I have taken a liking to them, The Whiskey Series can be a bit heavy though.

I put this one on my last rifle and do like it, and was thinking of this one again over the 4x16.

I picked up the Warne 2 Piece base ( Weaver style ) and Sig Sauer Alpha 6 Rings ( Pic/Weaver ) they don't fit in the groove, I now have a set of Warne Mountain rings coming.
