Howdy!

I have a Savage Ultralite in 7prc with a pure precision stock and Warne 20moa base. I am a lefty shooter.
I currently have a Mark5HD 3.8-18x44 and Hawkins Precision Rings with the center level

I just picked up an NX8 4-32x50 (check classified for the Mark5 and rings soon) and am looking for new rings.

I haven't had any issues with the Hawkins Rings but am looking for something I can see the level while in the scope. I am actually right handed, but left eye dominate. Where it goes weird.. I have terrible vision in my right eye, so the strategy of seeing the bubble in my non-shooting eye isnt an option..

I am looking for a setup I can see the level in my shooting eye with minimal movement. In my range guns, I have success with the MKM rail mounted level of scope mounted levels at the 10:30 or 7:30 (o clock) positions. But for my hunting rifle.. durability, low snag, etc are MUCH bigger considerations.

I am considering:
UM Premier with the built in level
Ruff Precision (RPM) with the built in level
Hawkins Precision with the offset top
NF Ultralite/Warne Mount Tech with a MKMachine Ultra Low Profile or Extreme Low Profile Scope mounted or rail mounted levels

Any input or suggestions on what would be the best balance of durability/low profile/weight but also visible around the NX8 with your shooting eye?
Am I just SOL?

Thank you!

SG pulse or MDT send it. You can pipe the lights to the eyepiece housing. That way you’re using your good eye.

Might be worthwhile getting an opthomologist eval for lasik or prk if you have that much discrepancy between eyes. Eye preference is like handedness. You have a natural preference, but competency can be trained. Neural pathways stimulated. Etc. Patching good eyes to stimulate bad eyes is a real thing, but beyond the topic of this thread.

I still haven’t figured out how critical a level is for hunting. But for comp shoots and practice it’s a part of the “process” of consistency.

10,000 yards...
Lol

I limit myself to 600
I’d think with your physical limitations and the scenario of trying to shoot animals at 600 from field positions I wouldn’t use one.

I believe there are going to be other things that would take precedence over a perfectly level reticle/rifle.

Just my opinion.

That's fair. When you crunch the numbers, at ethical hunting distances, you would need quiet a bit of cant to have a huge impact. I just look at it in the "doesn't hurt" category. Also, when just playing or practicing and shooting further, it could make a difference.

Those things are sweeeet, but I am not thinking the juice is worth the squeeze for me in hunting situations. Also not an expert.. but I believe the amount of cant needed to "miss" within 600 is pretty significant. I do put it in the "doesnt hurt" category and when practicing further.

As for the rest.. yeah.. I have basically perfect vision is on eye and around 20/100 in the other.. As a child, I did the eye patch and training stuff, but wasn't able to make a big enough difference. Being young and dumb, I basically gave up and just delt with it until more recently. Even corrected with a contact, I am only 20/70-80 I believe. I can see much better than without correction, but it comes with issues as well. I am working on getting stable enough prescription to seek lasik or prk, but not there yet. Eye Fatigue, Migraines, etc are a real pain.

Good luck man. Health in general, and eye health in particular can be a tricky thing. People have it till they don’t.

It would be nice if someone 3D printed a bubble shroud that clamps onto the eyepiece.

I very much like having the 12’clock bubble on my archery sight. A similar location on my scope would be ideal. image.jpg

That's a REALLY good idea.. you should patent that quick before someone sees this! lol

@pods8 (Rugged Stitching)
Any chance we could convince you to start 3D printing a bubble level that clamps around the eyepiece of a scope, and puts the level at the 12’clock position?

Similar to the archery sight posted above?

I seek no royalties or recognition. Item would be yours to profit from.
