Hoping someone here can help me out since I am unable to get anywhere that can help due to time and location constraints. I'll have to order off the internet and return, so the less exchanges I have to do, the better.

I have a 44mm scope with 30mm tube that is going on a Bergara B-14 Hunter, which has a #3 contour barrel, running Talley rings. I would love to use low rings, but not sure if I'll be able to get away with it. Or will I have to bump up to a medium height? Does anyone know?

Thanks

I just put a similar sized scope on my Bergara B14 Timber. I tried both the low and medium size Vortex Pro rings and eventually went with medium. There seemed to be little difference in scope picture when shouldering the rifle. The mediums offered a little better bolt clearance.

The lowest height isn't necessarily what you want. There is an optimal head position for your build and eyesight, which probably relates better to medium rings. It may not. You can get height spec.s from manufacturers. You can your desired height by fiddling around with lumps of clay.

I have mediums on one rifle and they are too tall and I have to slide my head up a little bit. I currently have low rings on this gun and the height is perfect, which is why I was hoping to stay with lows if possible.

the other thing i found out you need to consider, is the magnification ring in the back of the scope. i have a couple that are pretty thick and have me needing taller rings than i need for the objective up front.

If you know what you like, then this is just math. Manufacturers know the spec.s of their products.
