I have a Pre '64 Model 70 30-06. I'm attempting to mount a Leupold 3-9 x 40 scope, using leupold #50021 two piece base w/ leupold #49913 STD high mount rings. My issue is getting the eye relief set due to the scope coming in contact the the rear iron sight. I have tried to remove the iron sight, but cannot get it to budge (don't want to ruin it). Any ideas on how to remove iron sight or another scope base/rings combo to allow the needed clearance? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest warming it up a little and using a Brass Punch. It may take a few attempts but it should come off there....they can be a pain sometimes, but the brass punch should help with damage. Can also take it to someone with a sight pusher.
