Hey Folks,

I am going to be mounting a scope to my Knight .50 cal Ultra Lite Muzzleloader and am looking for suggestions on what scope to purchase.

I've been hunting elk with my Ultra lite the past 5 years here in the thick timber of North Idaho with good success. Most of my shots are under 100 yards. All this time I've used peep sights and they have been great, until recently. My vision isn't what it used to be, and so I managed to get my eye doctor to sign off on a reasonable modification permit to allow me to use a scope on my muzzleloader. Normally Idaho doesn't allow scopes for muzzleloader-only seasons. The permit I got limits the max power of the scope to 4x.

I've been leaning towards a Leupold, and specifically the Leupold VX-Freedom 1.5-4x28 IER Scout Duplex.

Leupold also makes a VX-Freedom 1.5-4x20, but I like the IER Scout better because of better eye relief and greater light intake on the larger objective lens.

Vortex also makes some max 4x scopes, and I am sure there are others out there.

What do you think? Are there other scopes I should be considering? I would appreciate hearing your perspective on this.

Thanks,

Tim

Unless you can get the scout mounted forward on the barrel, it's going to have too much eye relief mounted over the action. Stay with a traditional scope. Several companies offer a 1-4 scope. Pick the one you like best and hunt on.

When magnified optics were legal in Utah I used an older leupold m8 fixed power scope. They are pretty readily available used, and there is a 4x option. Unlike the newer leupolds the old m8’s are solid.

The original m8 was very tough. If anything broke, it was the reticle itself and it was easy to tell. I have one with target knob on the elevation.

Maybe a Burris, they don't get much acknowledgement here but I have had 2 on Center Fire Rifles and 1 on my Knight DISC Extreme (Fullfield 3-9 x 40 mm) and now Burris offers a "muzzleloader" model 200347 and I saw a deal via Eurooptices for this scope. (Plus no questions asked warranty. I also use their Burris Signature Rings with the pos align, inserts)
Just a suggestion...
