Scope carry?

As I was walking to a place I wanted to climb in my Summit climber today I carried my rifle by the scope. Although it has a sling, it is useless with the climber on my back. I generally carry on my shoulder but by the scope when I carry the climber. Never had a problem and I am pretty OCD about my rifles and their accuracy.
