I never did when I was having lower back issues. I suppose it is possible but I would expect you to have other pain zones in addition to you hip. My symptoms seemed to be typical for disk pressing on the sciatic nerve issues and would always start inside (under) the gluteus muscle then go to the back of my knee and Achilles area.

I did have tightness in my lower back. Then I got a burning sensation on the outside of my hip kind of back towards my ass cheek.

Hip pain and the sciatic nerve usually means the irritated nerve has inflamed the piriformis muscle. The branches of the nerve can run over, under, or through the muscle along the head of the femur.

Get your SI joint cared for - find an osteopath - then get your hip and leg muscles stretched out.

Once the piriformis muscle is effected it will take frequent stretching to keep it happy.

If you see a doctor make sure he knows the pain is in your hip and to check out your hip first. Last spring ended an 20 month struggle with leg pain for me. I had sciatica symptoms as well as hip/groin pain. But all the focus was put on my lumbar and a slight tear of my L5 disc because of the sciatica symptoms. 3 epidural cortisone injections, months of physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractor, and probably a thousand 800mg ibuprofen consumed. Nothing worked except temporary relief from the pills. Finally a doctor decided to acknowledge the pain I also had in my hip/groin and did an MRI of my hip. He found a tumor on my sitz bone called an osteoid osteoma. The tumor was causing all of the hip pain but my sciatic nerve was passing right by the tumor causing all of the lower leg pain as well. I had the tumor burned out and every symptom I had was gone over night!

I'm not saying you have Tumor, my point is to make sure you doctor (should you see one) doesn't just focus on one thing. I had 3 doctors only focus on my lower back because all they heard was sciatica! They did find a small tear in my L5 but my final doc said there is no way I should have been treated for so long on such a tiny tear.

Exactly the symptoms my wife started experiencing 3 weeks ago & is still experiencing today. She doesn't want to go to the doc. I'm pushing Rolfing.
Good place to start?

I've been stretching a lot the last few days and it seems to be working. I still have a little pain but not like it was.

I know a couple rolfers. They don't work on people that are in pain. They refer them to a chiropractor first. In one case they drove the guy to the ER since he had a broken neck from rolling his ATV.

Since you are in AK I recommend an osteopath - DO Perkins at Cornerstone - or a chiropractor. The Natural Health Clinic - DC Abbot - has bone tweekers that don't enjoy hurting you.

Rolfing is great for maintenance work after you have realigned the parts that need it.

If your wife lets it go for much longer, the fascia will become inflamed all the way down her leg, calf muscles will lock up, and then plantar fasciitis in her foot. Fun times. I wanted to shoot myself, but Doc Perkins fixed me in a couple minutes once I finally got in to see him after a few weeks.

I had hip pain. It hurt to sit, cough, or laugh. I was herniated at the L5-S1. I had surgery within a month of having symptoms and I haven't had an issue in years. Some people get shots but my herniation was large. I suggest seeing a doctor. It can be serious if not dealt with correctly.

Stretch out your psoas muscle. If your having lateral groin pain with lower back symptoms could be tight anterior muscle. Are you driving or sitting a lot? Look up you tube on how to stretch out hip flexors. If you're starting feel numbing, tingling issues go see a doc. I'm a massage therapist try these if you need relief now.

Yeah I operate heavy equipment so I'm sitting all day. I've never really stretched as much as I should but now that I'm stretching everyday it has helped.

I used to get a lot of sciatic pain, from my hips, down the leg and then it went around to the shin, like wrapping around the lower leg. Spent hundreds of dollars on chiropractors who seemed to want me out of there in 5 mins for the next $50 customer, then back2 weeks later. I ended up playing a round of golf, no pain since, so i bought some golf clubs and play when i start to get a bit sore, it has worked everytime so far.
