I don’t sell hardly anything on the classifieds, let alone sell and ship. Call me old fashioned, I don’t really mind.

What’s the best form of electronic payments? PayPal, Venmo, others? Do they charge additional fees or now taxes for the buyer or seller? What should I know about selling and buying and using electronic payments?

Zelle and Apple Pay are best if you’re confident in who you are working with. They are instant and have zero fees.

PayPal and Venmo can be less ideal for multiple reasons. They are anti 2A and may freeze / withhold funds if it’s obviously a 2A relation transaction. The “buyers protection” is completely at the risk of the seller- the seller is never protected and the buyer could easily get their $ back. They also charge a fee and take more time to get into your account.

As said. Venmo and PP are anti gun. I like Zelle and use it whenever I can, never had a problem with a transfer of money. There is no safer way to send money. You can get screwed just as fast with a USPS MO as well as cash. Know who you are sending money to.

I prefer PayPal. Its been around the longest and is the most widely used. All are susceptible to fraud, but paypal offers good fraud protection, especially if paid through a linked credit card. Be cautious if you're new to online purchasing, lots of fraud out there.

Zelle and Apple Pay are also "anti 2a"

PayPal will not cover anything related to a weapon so keep that in mind!

I have bought and sold hundreds of items on forums.

PayPal usually with understanding that it should always be “goods and services” (G&S) option so that buyer is covered if scammed or other issues. There is a fee for that. If seller has issue with that I tell them I’ll cover the fee (4%?) and add that to final price, if they have issues then probably a scam.
I usually use my credit card in PayPal in case there is issues with PayPal covering a scam or something, then I’ll let credit card know and they fix it since it’s their money at that point.

Once money is in your PayPal account (if selling), then transfer to your bank account or debit card account, 3 days no fee, if instantly there is a small fee.

Venmo has a similar option although I haven’t used their goods and services option. PayPal has backed me when their has been any issues.

But yes PayPal will roll if it is weapon related to be prepared to buy “Tools” in item description that your buying.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

I use my debit card almost exclusively.
I would be hesitant to use my debit card for anything other than in-person transactions where I personally swipe my card (never leaves my hand). If your card is compromised, a debit card is your money in your bank account. The bank doesn't seem too interested in recovering your money. If you use a credit card and it gets compromised, the bank will be real quick to recover the funds. I hear of stories where you give your credit card (or debit card) to a waiter/waitress and they go to pay your check in the back, or at the register and they end up taking a picture of the front and back of the card. If fraudulent purchases show up several days later, you don't really know where the compromise took place if you have been using the card in several places. You just get a call from your bank that a $500 purchase was made on the card in Chicago or Seattle and you have never been there. And NEVER use a debit card at the gas pumps.

That makes zero sense to me. If there is an issue, it's your money that is tied up, until it gets resolved, possibly not in your favor. If you become the victim of a scam... it's your money, and your account could be drained. The consumer protections on your debit card are lesser than credit card consumer protections.

I use credit cards to pay for pretty much everything, even when paying with PayPal, it runs through a credit card. The consumer protections via credit card payment is gold; my money is not tied up... however, I always pay off my credit cards every month. If I can't afford to pay off my credit card, it can wait until I can. In short, credit card debt is modern day slavery.

I agree as stated in my reply, credit card companies usually handle their stuff. I barely use my debit card anymore as I used it locally at a small town restaurant here in MT, only to have one of the staff write down specific bank (first interstate) of many customers and sell the numbers to a accomplice in Texas who had a card machine and created new debit cards to purchase with.

I travelled out of state the next week only to figure out my account had been drawn down into the negative and the bank took a week to fix the money. Luckily I had a credit card with me to travel with.

I purchased an item once with my CC through Venmo only to get scammed, Venmo was no help so I contacted my CC company and they got the money back.
