Either his account was hacked or he randomly decided to start scamming I guess. The only red flag was that he hadn’t really participated in a couple years and then took to the classifieds heavily in the last couple days.

Unfortunately no PP recourse for me. Hoping the bank will side with me and then I’m sure PayPal will limit my account

That's not an "only" red flag. That is a major red flag.

I cannot figure out why people continue to pay internet strangers via friends and family.

That’s an enormous red flag. They don’t get much bigger than that. I mean, apart from the $500 Garmin for $335.

Yeah I admit I got got. I’ve saved money both paying F+F and receiving F+F in the past and I’ve also refused to send F+F when things seemed sketchy. I didn’t notice the large gap in his posts before sending money, that’s on me. Everything else looked so legit I didn’t feel the need to scour his account. Also, the Garmin’s been on sale for $450 for a couple weeks across several sites so I didn’t think $350 for a used one was too far a stretch.

Lesson learned
