I've owned a 6 man and a sawtooth.

Like I said earlier the tipis are pretty slick and I would pick a tipi probably over the sawtooth. 2 doors, amble room for both, more stand up room.

Best of both worlds is to have both.

ive been looking at the sawtooth myself. Never messed with a floorless shelter, but the weight to space ratio of that sawtooth, and the ability to stand up would be nice. Regarding the stove, it looked to my like the oval stove would be a bigger PITA to set up though. Seems to me that the box stove seems to be easier to set up based on the videos ive seen, but I have no personal experience with them....>YET! I want a sawtooth and medium box stove I think.

All I can tell you about the ss medium box stove is it works great but it's heavy as sin. With everything including a warming tray in its bag and some Trioxine tabs for lighting I'm right at six pounds ! A Ti Oval stove is less than half that weight. If you're young with strong legs and need to save a few bucks then knock yourself out but this fat old man is gonna have a Ti Oval in the pack next fall.

Hahaha ! I've put eight pounds back on myself . Cheapest weight to cut is yourself. Eat less expensive food and use the savings to buy lighter equipment. Win win !

I have the medium box stove and I am very happy with it. Still trying to decide between a Kifaru sawtooth, a seek outside BCS grande or a 6 man tipi from either.

I have the SO 6 man with large Ti stove, the entire set up is under 10 lbs. I can tell you it does very well in the wind. for 2 it is a palace for 3 it is fine. 4 would be doable without the stove. I split the package up between the guys staying and it is a lightweight bombproof option. This setup is a bit much for solo adventures but if I was going to tough it out in rough weather I would consider the extra weight and work around it.
I have no experience with a sawtooth

Without a stove you could run 4 guys out of a Sawtooth pretty easily IMO. 3 guys is very doable. Especially if you mod it out so that rear pole is on the outside of the shelter and not taking up usable space inside.

I was looking into getting a sawtooth for a elk hunt this year and was wondering with the stove in it does it keep it pretty warm in there when the temps drop to like say 15 degrees?

You can get it pretty warm but it doesn't last long. It will warm you up and dry things out but it's not going to allow you to get by with a lighter sleeping bag. The fuel is generally small stuff you can break up and it burns up fast. To keep you warm you would have to feed it every 10 to 15 minutes all night. I light mine and then get undressed and into the bag while it keeps the tent warm. If I've collected enough wood then I might sit in front of it and feed it for a while and get toasty warm but I make sure I save enough wood to make a good fire in the morning. After it burns down in the evening I'll set it up ready to light in the morning. I wake up and poke an arm out and light it first thing in the morning along with my cooking stove. By the time the water boils the tent is warming up. I can unzip the bag and start the breakfast rehydrating , make coffee , and dress without a nasty cold shock. I'll feed the stove a little while I have my coffee and eat.

Thanks shrek, thats some great info on the sawtooth. I was thinking of getting a wall tent but that takes a lot of time to set up and lots of weight and plus with the sawtooth i could easily pack it in aways if i need to and bring the stove with.

I think you should consider a wall tent. Mine which is 1/2 of what is in the pic. was about the same cost as a sawtooth. We set up the wall tent then pack in. It is nice to have a warm sturdy home to come back to. Mine fits in a trash can complete with floor and vestibule. frame is heavy. Also this makes resupply much easier.
Your choice but I use my wall tent at least as much as I use my tipi and during hunting season I use them both.

I have a 6 man tipi, an 8 man tipi, and a Sawtooth (and paratipi). For usable room the Sawtooth is unmatched, especially put up against the 6 man. I absolutely love my Kifaru shelters, but the Sawtooth is my favorite. If you are using liners in your Kifaru (which I have to in BC), then the Sawtooth is miles ahead of the 6 man...IMO
