In a savage ml10-2 I’m shoot 62 gr reloader 7 and 300gr ballistic extremes and I’m just not getting great groups at 100 yards. Any recommendations ?different powder ? I’ve read some people are using n120. Would like to see some groups. I’ve always used rl7 but I don’t see anyone talk of using it now.

Used for one many years. I used 60.0-62.0gr N120 with 300gr SST in a HPH24 sabot, Federal primer. Speed was around 2200-2300 IIRC. Another projectile that always shot well was the 458 caliber Hornady 300gr HP, the 45-70 bullet, in the orange MMP sabot.

There are a few different sabot diameters available, fitment to bore can help dispersion, example would be the HPH 12 vs 24.

A worn out vent liner and getting the barrel to warm will alsocause poor accuracy in the Savage.

The only other propellant I used was H4198, it was a tad bit slower than N120 and charge weight was a little higher when using it.

Hope this helps.

I’m going to try n120. I’m shooting the Parker ballistic extreme with the short black mmp sabot. I was shooting Barnes original 45-70 bullets with orange sabots and it really shot good with them but can’t find the Barnes bullets.

Friends of mine have used the Parker and Barnes, all good bullets. Once I locked in on the loads I mentioned above I didn’t experiment much further as I didn’t really enjoy the front loader, just used it because it was the closest I get get to a CF rifle at the time. Haven’t used it in years but it hammered whitetails with authority.

I have a 45/70 single shot that was converted to a ML. Im shooting 275gr Fury star tip bullets that are sized to the bore and 55gr n120. Outstanding accuracy and 2560fps. It’s the opposite of a RSS, it’s loud, heavy and plenty of recoil but it hammers deer.
