Savage or Bergara

I am buying my first 6.5 creedmoor and having trouble with which rifle to buy my budget will allow for either a Savage 110 storm stainless or the Bergara B14 blued. I am not going to buy a Tikka because I already have a few and want to try something different also the Savage storm is $200 off right now at Cabela's. Which rifle would you buy?

I've really liked the Bergara Woodsman I purchased awhile back, but have always like Savage for their price to performance in the past, but all the new features has raised it's cost. Old models seem to be more bargain priced with the same action rifle so I tend to buy older models and upgrade the stock if needed.

Main difference's I can see is the stock system & that the Savage weights almost a 1/2 lbs heavier. Cabela's lists it @ 7.1 lbs but Savage has it @ 7.4 lbs.

Online prices elsewhere can make the Bergara come in at a lower price @ $555. If you have a local shop that doesn't charge a transfer fee then you can save a lot of money ordering online.

Given just those two choices I'd buy the Bergara.

I shot a bergara for a while as well as two friends of mine (B14 Hunters) and they are tack drivers. I switched to a CA Mesa, but it doesn't shoot any more accurately than the bergara did.

The bergara had a nice action, good trigger, the grippy texture of the stock was great, and it shot 1/2 moa all day long.

Forgot to mention it has a $30 shipping fee. One main thing is to consider if your local dealer will charge you a fee for the transfer, I have two that are with in reasonable driving distance that won't charge. But since they don't charge I usually spend $20-60 when picking up the gun's I ship there to help them out for their trouble.

I do not have any experience on Bergara. I do have several Savages; 223 Rem to 300 Win Mag. My worst shooting one is right at 1 MOA; all of the others are sub-MOA using commercial ammo.

I will probably be buying from Cabelas because I have a good sized gift card from them. Savage is 750 but 200 off right now the bergara is 700. I like the stock, trigger, action, and no box mag of the bergara more. I like the stainless steel and $550 current price of the Savage storm more.

Does anyone shoot Berger vld hunters? That opening in the action of the bergara looks super short i hope the 140's would feed out of that action

Yea I'd go with the Savage if it was just buying from Cabela's, if I had a choose between the two at the same cost I'd go Bergara.

On another note, you could just buy This Model Savage & still get the $100 mail in rebate to bring it down to $449. Could always use the extra cash to cerakote it so you won't have a shiny rifle in the field & still have it weather resistant. Rifle weights only 7.5 lbs, has a nicer bolt, is threaded, & comes with a scope rail.

5R sound cool, but for a hunting rifle it's a moot issue. I get it if your a Ruger fan, but stating a rifle is the worst doesn't make it so.

Just went through this same decision and it came down to these 2. Opted for the Bergara and have been generally impressed. I didn't put calipers on my target when I zeroed, but it's close to, if not under 0.5MOA out of the box.

Much nicer trigger if you're going to stay stock there. It does seem like some of the black cerakote or whatever it is can rub off too easily.

I’ve got maybe a dozen critters on a Savage 110 25-06. Hornady 117 grain SST, Leupold VXII 4-12x40 and the whole world can kiss my ass - shoots like a damned laser and you can bank on that.

I really have to try one of those has it's surprising to me that savage makes accurate rifle. i have always had bad experiences with them.

I heard nothing but good things about Savage even though I chose the Bergara. For the money, in not sure there's a better deal than their trophy hunter line, if the basic 3-9 scope works for you.

My Bergara ended up costing twice as much after the scope and rings.

I bought a Bergara B14 a few months ago. The action is much nicer than the Savage and the stock feels better to me as well. It's got a little heft and the recoil of the 6.5 is negligible.

I walked into Scheels to buy a Tikka, saw the Begara on the used rack (first one I had held) and walked out with it.

I had handled about every gun I could find in that price range and the Tikka was the only real competitor for me... I still want one, maybe a 7mm-08, but for now I am happy.

I don't know many good or bad stories in either direction, but I own two Savage 110s (30-06 and 25-06) and have been very pleased with both of them.

Truth be told, I feel that any rifle that has served you well instills confidence - a major factor in putting an animal down. I've blasted maybe 30-40 antelope and deer with rifles, and oddly enough my 25-06 and 35 Rem have accounted for a vast majority of them (the 35 was inherited from 80 year-old uncle and used for whitetail back in eastern NC). Not necessarily because they are competition worthy, but because I have a crazy level of confidence in them that I know one box of ammo equals 20 critters.

On the flipside, I have a 7 mm Model 70 that I whiffed on a gorgeous buck with and it haunts me to this day (15 years later?). It's in my head and will take a while to overcome that traumatic event!

All that said, I've been sucked into the Tikka love fest by others on here and have one in 6.5 CM on order (stainless lite)... couldn't stand to be on the outside looking in! Great suggestions on the thread below. Will be ecstatic if it runs circles around my Savage, Remington, Winchester, and Ruger long guns.

I have the stainless T3 lite n 7mm. I feel it is too lite, and does not shoot as well as my accumark (much heavier). T3 lite may be better in less violent calibers, but would avoid the magnums I agree that the magnums can be a little abusive on a bench. I have a 300WSM and recently swapped out...

I like the Tikka's also i own two both long action cartridges though this will be my first short action cartridge and I want a rifle that offers a short action. I am leaning towards the bergara i just wish they had a stainless b14. I held a hells canyon this last weekend that's going for $900 new I just can't see why you need a brake on a 6.5
