Anyone seen the new, all stainless, Savage Lightweight Hunter?
Not much cartridge selection (.223, .243, 7/08, .308 & .270) but 5½ pounds & under $600 from Bud's!

I've just put one of my other guns up for sale to get one. With sensible scope selection I reckon this'll be perfect for my elk hunt & around 3lb lighter than the model 11 Hog Hunter I was planning on carrying!

I picked up a 7mm-08 barreled action off 24hr. It's with Todd Bettin right now getting a new stock and the Accupoint mounted. I'm pretty excited to get it back.

I'm really hoping they could add 30-06 to this lineup, too. They have it in the non-SS version...

I don't honestly understand why they didn't. They're already chambering in .270 so it's obviously not an action strength issue....

A guy on the savage shooters forum put a stainless 24" 280ai barrel sportsman guide had on sale for $89 and actually dropped a couple onces and had himself a serious shooter

Easy enough to do yourself. Get the gun in .270 and then order a nice 20" or 22" barrel in 30-06 from one of the pre-fit guys (Apache or Northland Shooters). The .270 barrel will probably sell for $100 or more I would guess.

That or just buy their regular 116 package in 30-06 and have your smith cut the barrel down. Most of the weight savings in this gun comes from the short barrel. The rest comes from a non-accustock stock and the lighter weight plastic DBM setup. The machining on the action and bolt only cuts like 1.5oz from what I've seen. Does look cool though!

The contour of the barrel is very thin as well. You would only save a couple ounces cutting a 22" factory tube down to 20".

Also, not sure on Apache, but Northland does not offer a LW contour as of last year when I got my 280AI from them. You may be able to talk Jim into a custom contour, but who knows.

I'm gonna get one in .308 sometime in the next couple months.

Had my heart set on a Tikka SuperLite but I already own one Tikka so I'm gonna branch out a little!

I have ben hitting up the local shops for one in 7-08 but can't find one. CAL Ranch had one a couple months ago but I thought who would but it in Jan and someone bought it.

Bud's guns have the 7-08 in stock at $599 but the .308 is out everywhere right now.

I also found a local gun. Although not the model 16. I picked up a new-in-box model 11lwh in .308 for way less than I'd budgeted! $500 out the door & the guy threw in a left over Tupperware stock.

I've grown some paint at it & installed my Vortex 2-7x33 & she rolls in at 6lb 8oz
