savage 11 Scout top bolt release.

I was wondering if anyone knows what is needed to convert a bottom bolt release to a top bolt release. I purchased an accurate Mag bottom metal and magazine. it fits perfect but I need a top bolt release sear and cant seem to find someone willing to let it go. I am trying to dual purpose this rifle so that it can be used as a hunting rifle. So far I have solved the scope issue so that it can mount a standard scope. I used a ar15 scope mount with a 30mm offset reversed to bring the scope further back so I wouldn't need to remove the rear peep sight which turned out great!

For now I am using the original magazine. I'm just hoping to locate this part before too much time goes by and it is impossible to find.

It is possible.

You'll need a new sear, which will be the toughest thing to get. Must have an FFL call Savage and get one for you, and they have to know the part number when they call.

You'll also need to hog out some material on the stock so the top bolt release will have room.

The newest Savage bottom bolt release actions aren't milled for clearance for a top bolt release sear either, so you'll need to figure that out. Either mill the receiver or bend the sear, which often results in a broken sear because it's a hardened part.

But, it is possible. The mounting holes/distance for the trigger hanger hasn't changed since Savage started making 110's in 1958. I'm putting a brand new Timney on my 1960 110 as we speak. Took me a while to get the sear, but I finally found one. They are nearly unobtanium unless you have a good FFL who gives a damn about getting you a $12 part (most don't).
