I have two cartridges. 308 and 30-06.
I’m trying to load the same bullet in both. What would be the reason I couldn’t get the bullet to shoot any faster in the 30-06 then the 308?

I’ve tried the same powders. Ive switched to mag primers.

Why can’t I get this bullet to go faster in the 30-06?

Faster burning powder? Slower burning powder? Is this just a slow rifle compared to the 308.

Thoughts?

All barrels are different- even from the same company.
A bullet and barrel combo usually will tell you what it wants to do. Pertains to velo as well as accuracy.

Give us the details of your loads and maybe we can help? Sounds like the powder is the issue.

What is the barrel length of both rifles? If the 06 is short, say 18" or 20", and the 308 is 24-26, then that alone will make up a good difference. Now throw in a slow powder and that short barrel will hurt you even more.

I was mistaken I did not use the same powder. The bullet is the 130ttsx.
308 w/ 56.4gr of BL-C2 reached 3150fps
30-06 w/
61.5gr Big Game = 3173fps
56.5gr Varget = 3109fps
I’ll have to load up some BL-C2 in the 30-06 and test it. Thought i did but it’s not in my notes.

Ruger American gen1 308
Tikka T3x SS 30-06
Both have 22” barrels.

So did you find pressure with each or just go off book without looking anything up? That 308 load seems like its screaming.
