Salomon Quest Owners

I'm in the market for my first pair of boots for mountain hunting. I am finding that most boots I have tried are pretty sloppy in the heel with the exception of Salomon Quests. For those of you who wear these, what other boots have you found to have a similar fit? How do they hold up in cold, wet conditions? How do they compare to the X Alp MTN GTXs?

I have the Q4d and can only answer some of your questions... I like the water proof so far, but only hunted in average rain and walked in deep snow. The fit for me is perfect.
I have an issue with feet easily getting cold, only when I sit. If I'm on the move I'd wear these each season I hunt. I looked at the insulated version of these bot opted out as my hunts are warmer weather and its just not needed.

I'm looking next at a Crispi Summit. Not cause the Solomon is bad, but cause the crispi is suppose to be that good.

I love the Solomon, and expect to love the crispi.
Paid $119 for the Sol on Black fri sale- totally pleased
Expecting to pay $300 for the crispi-

I'll echo what mfllood said. I pretty much wear mine all year. I'll add this--I also have a pair of Crispi Wyomings and the Crispi does not fit like the Salomon's. Not that it's bad, but they have a more narrow toe box and a wider mid sole. Heel cup is about the same as the Salomons. I prefer the Salomons.

i have FLAT feet, i need lower arch, crispi idaho did not fit my feet well at all

Here is a picture of my foot so you can see my Arch as well as my Solomon the Contour of the Soul pretty much follows what you see in the boot

I just went through fitting with Hanwag Alaska (normal), Lowa tibets (wide), and zamberlan 1060s. They all were returned in favor of the Quest 4Ds. They were all more narrow than the Salomons, which aren't described as a wide boot, but the toebox is plenty roomy and flex a bit more. The 4Ds are a solid boot, but they're not quite as stiff as the others. I really liked the Hanwags, as they are a bit taller, but they didn't quite like my foot. The zamberlans were a real close 2nd, but they just didn't feel as nice as the Quests. I can't believe they sell that Lowa Tibet as a wide.

I love my 4D, I'm on my second pair. the first pair, both boots lost their water proof in 6 months, returned to Gore-Tex and swapped for another boot(love that warranty), didn't like it, tried some other boots, and eventually went back to the 4ds despite my bad luck, I missed their fit. this time I have not lost my water proof, have had them a year and just checked them the other day to see if I need a new pair. I don't, they are good. love these boots.

I feel like the stiffer you go the more sensitive fit gets in regards to keeping your foot in place. Quests feel like supportive tennis shoes to me so the heel doesn't move much. I have quests and x alp MTNs. The X Alps are significantly more of a "technical" lower volume fit. Guys with wider feet or longer pinky toes might have excessive rubbing but they fit me great. The soles are narrower and stiffer side to side so they are a significant improvement on side hills. There is still a lot of heel to toe flex and I don't see them giving up any stealth or walking comfort to quests unless you need empty volume in your boots to be comfortable.

Has anyone had issues with fit on the Solomon's on the top of the foot? They bite the top of my foot where the laces start. Did that break in for anyone e?

mine bit on the outer ankle- just above it; otherwise the fit was near perfect and I have a very hard time finding boots w/ a wide enough footbox

sadly they bit so hard, I had to send them back- one long hunt (14-ish miles) and I was almost limping from the bite; I'm now wearing a pair of LaSportiva Omega's around the house and so far so good; a long hike will be the true test

How's the fit on the Omegas compared to the Saloman?

very similar- my heel locks in nicely, midfoot is snug, but not overly and I have room in the toe box; as long as I don't get any weird pressure things they should be good to go

the Omega is slightly stiffer than the Quest and a few ounces heavier, outsole is slightly more aggressive imo too

I'm in exactly the same boat. I have tried dozens of boots before quests, and getting closer to another dozen after the quests and still haven't found anything with the same heel pocket as the quest. The La Sportiva trango trks feel promising but I haven't put any miles on them. The Hoka Tor Ultra had pretty good heel fit but other problems.

I have had a pair of Quests for 4 days and when I first put them on I was getting the bite on the top of my left foot like Gbrecka describes. I tried lacing the boots a couple different ways but found if I just snug up the laces closest to the toes I have no more problem. I have put about 3 miles on these walking inside and they feel great. I am excited to put some real trail miles on them soon.

What issues did you have with the hoka?
Durability? I was halfway curious about this boot.

Mine lost theirs after 6 months as well and have been collecting dust on my shelf...you just send em in and they replace them free of charge?

Yup. All you pay is shipping to them.
I've warrantied a couple pairs now. Saved me hundreds on new boots.
Call goretex, they have lifetime warranty on their boots. You call them and get an RA number. Ship it to them. They test the boot to make sure it leaks and you can get the same exact boot or thy can send you any other goretex boot of the same value.

Haven't tried anything besides boots. But anything with the goretex brand, if it leaks. They replace it

Whoah! Ive never heard this before, that's amazing. I'm going to take them up on that because most boots I've had in the past 5 years leak after a season.
