Another year, another set of boots.....Feel like we have a similar thread every year. So guess I'll start this years :ROFLMAO:

Has anyone found a boot that has similar weight and comfort as the Salomon Quest's, but lasts more than a year and is actually waterproof?

I have the Quest 3 and bought a pair of Crispi Valdres, comfortable us comparable and fully waterproof.

I don’t know that those boots exist. I bought some hanwag on sale a couple months back. I think they’re still having some good sales. 300 dollar boots for 100.

I am interested in this topic too - my Salomon goretex trail runners sole came unglued yesterday at a match. The previous pair of Salomons - the sole dry rotted and came off in chunks. I like the Salomons but consistently disappointed in the durability.

Salomon runs wide on me- but the Lowa mid range boot compare IMO.

Renegade likely more waterproof than the quest. Apple for apple maybe the zephyr - but I think the zephyr mid sole are more comfortable then the Salomon mid soles.

I basically get 18 months out of my Salomons and am on my 5th(??) pair. I just had the sole rip on a pair on a scouting trip in CO a few weeks ago. I haven't found anything that fits me well and is reasonably priced, but I would definitely consider switching.. The durability issue I would accept if they would stay waterproof for longer - seems I only get a few months until they turn into a sponge!!

Those boots are kind of semi-soft. I like a harder boot now for the mountains, so I am using the Hanwag

I do not know of a single running shoe I get more than 2-3 month out of. We walk 3 miles nightly and I walk about a mile at work.

Not Hoka, Not Brooks, not Altra, nothing!

Hi-Tec (i have Altitude VI) have been the best shoes I've had for spot-and-stalk hiking. extremely comfortable and quite durable. i've thrashed them through some horrible scrub. i will say i needed thicker socks with them to fit perfectly snug but after they're excellent and they are quite breathable too

My Salomons are still holding up, but to experiment, I got a pair of Crispi Colorado's in the wide style. They fit more like the Salomons, but haven't done any side-hill trips with weight to see if they have the needed support.

I've had several pairs of Salomon quest and all have fell apart and leaked within a year. Also they do not breathe well for me. Seem very warm for what they are. I wear lowa tibets daily and get 3 years out of a set. Much heavier but 10x the boot the salomons are

The Quest 4 GTX weighs 23.1oz per boot (from REI) and costs $230. The Crispi Lapponia III is $350 and 21oz. Hanwag Alverstone II GTX is $350 (can find them really cheap right now) and weighs 25.75oz. I've run the Alverstones (in a wide) for several years now in the steepest country in the lower 48 and they have proven themselves. My hunting partner ran the Lapponias and loved them as well.

The other boot that looks interesting, but I haven't run yet, is the Lowa Renegade Evo GTX. 20.8oz and $280 (can find cheaper), plus the build and waterproofing look solid.
