Looks like Salomon has dropped a new version of the Quest. At first glance, it looks like the design seems to have gone back towards previous versions that people liked.

Only review I could find on them, and this person mentions at 1:24 how the toebox seems nice and wide.

I’ll probably check these out next time I’m at REI… I never did like the fit of the most recent Quest 4 GTX. I have the Salomon Quest Element and that fit is like the older Quest 3 and, it’s crazy light but it’s super flexible and I wanted something with a bit more stiffness so this past offseason I picked up a pair of the Quest Forces. Those are much, much more robust and stiff but still has the older style fit which I liked, but heavier. Will be interesting to see what this latest version is like, as my Elements and Forces do fit my foot well.

Right on, I've had a pair of the 3s stashed for sometime now knowing it would be hard to source another pair. Love the fit.
If the 5 has more durability than the previous models I could see these being a hit.

Solomon boots are the best boots made for about 4 months. If they could figure out the durability but keep the comfort (not sure if possible) they would be the best boot ever made.
They do seem to fall off pretty hard and fast under real use

Yeah you kind of have to expect them to be a more frequently replaced item unfortunately. I try to buy them when on sale (REI will usually run a 20% off sale twice a year, and LAPG will run sales on the Forces pretty often )… plus if you’re an REI member you have a full year to return them even if used/they crap out on you.

I had 5 or 6 in almost as many years , half were warranty replacements. I finally pulled the plug and moved on.

I also picked up a pair of La Sportiva Aequilbrium Treks during GoHunts Black Friday sale. I had to size up to a 12 for them to fit ( I wear 11 in the Quests), but they have a fit similar to the Quests. I’m still wearing them in, but looking at their construction vs the Quests I honestly don’t think there is going to be much difference in long term durability tbh.

Anyone have any recommendations besides the Quest 5, that might be similar? Pretty hard on boots and shoes in general, and go through Quest 4s in just a few months, but don't want to be in stiffer, more rugged boots all the time.

Lowa Zephyr is much more long-lasting in my experience and only marginally more rugged
