Sako 90 Peak .223 - " Sako Select Program "

Good news hearing xs action in 90. Pretty sure same magazine as 75/85’s so prolly not make .223 guys happy but I’m factory ammo guy so not fluent on it. If saami oal would seem to make sense to go Grendel or Arc to get the higher bc stuff to fit in their wonderful mags but pipe dreams with Sako speed to market. Can’t big game hunt .223 in my market so another dgaf for me.

Wheels turn on potential to convert to x39 case though. Could machinest/smith open bolt face? Would mag work with just a custom follower made up? Then a barrel and be purdy expensive jewel. Still dreaming.

Can you spur (aggressively) the Sako peeps for Grendel/Arc’s in future peaks???

If had to guess the .223 crowd here would faint if they had 90 peaks with twist, mag length, and 10 & 20 round mags. Corner the .223 market everywhere lol. But have to remember it’s slow as molasses Sako. Anything I’ve missed for the .223 guys?

Whats the general opinion on the mini fix from you guys? I have a 12" 8.6 that I love, Probably gonna grab a 12" 5.56 too.. Seems like a great option for most of you, aside from the cost..

I just wish you had not sold me a .223 T3x Stainless 3 months before Tikka announced all 2025 rifles would have threaded barrels.

Now, I am waiting for take off threaded 223 barrels to show up for sale.

The obsession with tikka and sako are because of these reasons.

If you get the chance can you shove some 6arc or 22arc rounds into the. 223 mag and see if that has the potential to function.

I'm really intrigued with the idea of having a bolt face opened up and rebarreled for .22 ARC.

I don't want to cut the barrel back and lose velocity. So far, I use it exclusively for affordable practice and want to have as much reach as a 223 allows.

I figure there will be take off threaded barrels available at decent prices within 12 months.

The new threaded barrels are 20” instead of 22”. So, waiting for a takeoff barrel won’t save you velocity. You should only lose 50-100 FPS at most from a 2” chop. And you gain the advantage of suppression. My 16” AR is sending AAC 77-grain OTMs at 2692 FPS. I expect to get about the same performance out of a bolt gun.

Also curious about max COAL on the XS and whether it could potentially be fitted for a 12mm bolt face.
