I've heard tell there will be a ffp version of the meta 3-18x42 coming this year...
Anyone have any details on this? Is it just a rumor?

I received an email a few days ago from S&B announcing this. Yes, they are now making a FFP version with a new reticle. It said they would be available September 2025. I’ll attempt to attach the PDF I received with the product info.

The email I received did not contain any pricing info. It was just a new product announcement indicating it was introduced at the SHOT show this week. It did say they were accepting orders for 9/25 delivery so I imagine any S&B dealer can give you the price.

Looks legit. 27oz. Wonder what the price tag on that dude is? And delivery of 9/25 leaves no time to get comfortable with it before rifle season.

The 2nd focal original version are 3-4k msrp depending on model

I'd assume the ffp will be similar

It seems the illum is intended to support use of a thinner reticle at lower mag based on that pdf posted.

As a hunter, I will never need 10 mils of windage hold. I will often need to bracket between the outer posts for shots in busy backgrounds and/or low light and/or quick shots. This said with the idea of it being an all around hunting scope, not long range only.

I don't want to depend on illumination...but it's nice to have. ...if...it's extremely dim and only a small point. If I counted correctly, their reticle has 16 different disjointed sections that are illuminated.

For me, the reticle kills it.

I kinda like the reticle
Except for the Christmas tree portion.

I like that the first mil of wind hold subtends at .2 then transitions to .5. I agree that 10 mils is excessive though.

If they dropped the Christmas tree portion, I think it's a good one. That being said, it's still a heavier scope. I was under the impression it would be the same weight as the original SFP meta which was closer to 24 ounces.

I'd have a tough time picking this over a trij ten mile, since they both have Christmas tree mrad reticles but the trij is a lot lighter.

I'm still looking for the perfect scope and the search continues. I'm done buying NF for now, and the RS 1.2 is decent but I'm not 100% satisfied with them.

I’m a tree hater too. Based on the offerings in the marketplace it seems we tree haters are in the minority though.

I have no use for this S&B scope myself for all the same reasons you fellows have mentioned. Weight, reticle, price. The 3-9 Milquad is still my preference despite its shortcomings. That reticle is just great.

Maybe the thought to have 10 mils of windage is measuring, ranging or movers. But probably 6-7mils would be enough

This reticle is about the same thickness as a 6x swfa and almost twice as thick as a nx8 f1 4-32. In my experience thats extremely visible even on low magnification without illumination. 10 mils windage is excessive & won't help with bracketing but as a medium to long scope this reticle should work very well for me. Hopefully the illumination is same as the 6-36 PMII which is daylight bright. My primary hunting acopes are S&B Ultrashorts and this looks like a smaller version so it's very welcome.
