Ruger Precision 17hmr - what a fun gun

Haven’t shot rimfire in years, picked my kids up the cricket precision rifle and a suppressor, figured I had better get something to shoot with them.

Snagged the Ruger Precision on sale, threw some leftover bench items on it, and took it out today.

After working the action some 75 times and the addition of a bit of no. 7 it was much faster/easier to work and feed.

10 round group at 55 yards using cci A17 was impeccable. Averaged 2704 at the muzzle.

Sound through my Omega 300 was very tame, will suffice while my waiting for my Lyman Sonicore Skarv to get to my SOT.

Any reccomend mods yall are making on these? Can’t wait to find some gophers/chucks

You've got a great setup. The Ruger Precision Rimfire in .17 HMR is one of the most fun guns in my safe. With a suppressor, it's a gopher-slaying machine. The kids will love it. You'll love it.

17 is fun. Have confirmed pdog kills at 280 with my tikka. It’s a fun little rifle and a varmint killer.

I’d be careful using a sealed can like that. Although the lead issue isn’t present 17 ammo deposits a sand like material from something inside it. It’s a sticky mess getting it off/out of a suppressor.

Had the same comment. Years ago I called Silencerco and asked about doing this and they suggested doing some mag dumps of 556 to help blow some of that out.


Love my 17 rpr though. It’s been a ton of fun with my thermal and my swfa fixed 10. Lots of squirrels, an otter, and a couple foxes and raccoons have fallen to it

Love this gun just wish it was lighter on the front end (fine for me but kids struggle). The adjustable stock has been great for fitting various shooters.

The omega is a stand in for sub 100 rounds until my Skarv gets approved. Will soak the omega in CLR after. Hopefully 75ish rounds aren’t a big deal!

A few rounds isn’t a big deal, it’s easy to end up with a couple thousand rounds of 17 pretty quick!

I've always wanted to play with the Ruger Precision Rifle in rimfire.

I’ve had 2 or 3 in 22LR and I liked them.
10/22 mags, adjustability, accurate and reliable.

The 10/22 mag compatibility is really nice, as is the adjustable length of pull and cheek riser if the kiddos get behind it.

I've learned it's smarter to buy the magazine you want first and then determine the firearm. I have a Savage Mark II in .22 LR that's accurate enough to win gold medals but the damn magazine requires finessing to make it run right. It's so frustrating.
