Howdy folks!

I have a 1982 Ruger M77, the old tang safety model, that I’d like to outfit with a new scope setup. I’d really like to get a set of the Hawkins Long Range Hybrid rings, as I’ve got the lightweight tactical rings on another rifle and love em. Trouble is, I don’t know if the receiver has a ‘standard’ Remington 700 profile. Ruger customer service has thus far been unhelpful, though I’m still trying with them. When I was looking at the Leupold backcountry ring mounts, they did direct me to the Remington 700 option…I’m just skeptical.

Anyone have info about the receiver pattern on this gun? Thank you!

I have an old tang safety 77 as well and it’s got an integrated Ruger specific dovetail. I think Warne makes some direct mount rings for it. Someone probably makes a pic rail but I don’t know.

Use the Leupold rings made for Ruger 77. Do not use the Warne vertical split ones. They will pinch your scope tube. And be prepared to lap.

No it’s not a Remington 700 profile. Rugers use their own integrated rail system. Not my favorite system for precision, but they are plenty strong.

The leupold Ruger rings suck. Few will tighten properly in the dovetails. Ive NEVER had a problem with Warnes, either 'pinching' the tube, or failing to tighten properly.....

Just put a new scope on my grandpa's m77. I used steel rings from ruger. Machine work leaves a little to be desired but they torqued down to 65 inch pounds without issue. Being that they are steel, im optimistic they will hold up well. I was informed by someone more in the know than me that the ruger branded rings are the rings to go with on the m77

Mine for sure doesn’t look like these, I can say that confidently.
