Ruger American Barrel/Stock Contact

Recently bought a Ruger American Compact and the stock is severely lopsided when the action screws are tightened. The barrel was touching the stock on one side when I got it, but have recently sanded it down enough to make it free-floating. Still, it looks really lopsided. Haven't shot it yet.

Any advice on a replacement compact stock or other remedy that has been tried?

Also, what's everyone torquing these action screws to? 60-80 in lb seems excessive to me.
