I have a really nice factory Ruger M77 compact in Rem. 260.

I like the caliber quite a bit and am thinking of having my gunsmith put a longer barrel on it and chasis it in somekind of composite stock that fits me. The lop currently is probably under 13" and maybe has a 18 or maybe 20" barrel now. It is the perfect rifle for a women of younger shooter. I would consider selling it. But am also considering a redo to fit me and would be a pretty nice lighter weight rig. thoughts?

I assume you have the laminated stock. If so they are durable and attractive but heavy. I would re-stock but leave the barrel length. Keep the old stock as you could pass it down to a younger or smaller shooter some day. I have four 260's and love the caliber. I've had good performance from the 20" barrel.

Thanks, no I have a wood stock. I would like a longer barrel. But maybe I should reconsider and just change out the chassis?

Friend of mine has .284 win in a m77 that hart rebarreled and stuck in McMillan stock 20ish years ago. Great rifle for just about anything, scoped with a leupold 2.5-8 and sling it comes in around 6.5 pounds I think.
