They make a "javelina" call, but it sounds just like every other jack rabbit distress call. The one I used was as adult rabbit distress.

Aron has videos and they were all upside down. I sent them again as text and he is trying again.

Great thread Rosin! I'll be down there for Coues in a little over a week!! This thread will keep me entertained until then. Best of luck, shoot straight!

One question, when does the Javi season close?

Tonight was dreadful, 3 does with a forkie in tow. I spoke with two more ranchers, mule deer few and far between because they have no water around.

New plan, turning to coues deer. Have friends nearby hunting coues and seeing bucks everyday with rut activity.

I am going to do some predator calling in morning, pick up my Javelina and head north to meet up with them. I still have four days, so hopefully can connect on a coues.

So I changed gears and am hunting coues now. I started hunting at about 11 and was on a stalk at 11:30. Probably not a great oppurtunity, but I was itchy. Two hours later I got busted by a doe. Hour and a half back to my optics and I was feeling like a hunter again.

Another hour later on another stalk. This one was much more doable. But the buck fed off in different direction and I couldn't ow because of wind direction.

Found about 7 bucks and bunches of does. So back in the hunting game.

Clear and cold tomorrow....

Doesn't take much to fuel the fire between Ed and Nate. Always makes for good entertainment.

Today was freakin cold....about 15 degrees at 5000' looking for coues. Thru the day about 30 does and 4 bucks. 2 of the bucks were shooters, but had no chance. First light and they were creating ridge tops at about a mile away.

We did get into some javelina. Couldn't catch them so tried calling them back to us and that didn't work. We did manage to get between a couple stragglers and the group. My buddy hot busted during his stalk, but I was able to call them back. They were not super agrees ice coming back as there were only two of them. My buddy had him broadside at 35 yards standing still and a complete miss left. Come to find out his string hit his "new" jacket. That is why you should shoot with the clothes and equipment you plan on hunting with.

The javelina encounter was the only excitement of the day.

Maybe trying some mule deer again tomorrow. Undecided at this point...
