I’ve become a rokstok disciple, but like many I don’t love the oem bottom “metal”. I really want the larger trigger guard but want to know what actually works. I’ve seen the posts / threads of Mtn Tactical essentially being crap, and others like the High Desert requiring shims. These were my top 2 initially shopping but really don’t want to battle fitting them if possible. Any other recommendations? I’d like to stay with factory mags.

The action inlet height is wonky on Stockys stocks. Best bet is factory plastic if you’re hoping to avoid shims or have it sit flush. New high desert are actually now ten second precision and have more relief for the trigger requiring less shims.

Can’t help on others, but there will be bottom metal made for them coming. Correctly enlarged trigger guard, and another feature that isn’t on any other bottom metals that I am aware of.

Can you say if they will they take the OEM mags?

Following. I’m in need of two and will definitely give them a shot when released. Keep us posted.

Re: high desert shims: it’s mostly a non-issue. Get the stock and bolt up your rifle, try a mag. If the mag is really tight, add a shim. If it’s still really tight, add another shim. Attach the shims in the stock with a dab of superglue if you want, and you can bed them in place although that’s not really necessary (although from the few Ive seen stockys usually do benefit from bedding). That’s really all there is to it. It adds like five minutes and zero technical ability to deal with this. Unless you’re frequently assembling and disassembling your rifle, it just doesn’t matter. I believe this is as much of an issue with the stock as it is with the bottom metal anyway. I appreciate having the shims included with the bottom metal!

Not sure what is coming out as mentioned above but the 6 UM and 6Max (same cartridge) both had feeding issues with UM Tikka bottom metal. I know the three of us that started with UM Tikka bottom metal went back to factory. Maybe cartridge specific thing, I do not know.

I have high desert (2x) and mountain tactical (1x). Of those, id go high desert. If I needed another, id look at lumley or PR Precision. High desert works fine, just needs quite a bit of shimming and sits a bit proud at the bottom.

Those mags were for Long Action magnum cartridges though right?

Yes the Magnum Magazines. The issue was as soon as you try to load a round the nose of the bullet would dive down into the magazine. If the mag was full it was just enough to catch the nose and if it was empty it would really dive down. I'm not a gun plumber so not sure if its a spring tension or design thing and maybe the issue has been resolved. It was nice bottom metal but not nice enough to go away from Tikka IMO, had more of a "cool" factor than function factor for me I guess.

Now that I have talked schitt, the UM bottom metal for 700 clones I have is super nice and works flawlessly for what its on. The box length is fudged a tick but other than that, if you like a nice bottom metal with a 3 round mag, I have had no issues.
