Rokstok review thread

I order one and don’t recall the inlet size. The other I picked up used on the forum. I now have 5 Tikkas, which I never thought I would as I don’t find the action attractive. Then after reading here over the past few years I picked up a used 223. It cycled better than my 700 actions so I looked for deals on them. I am using a new 223 1:8 16” threaded 1/2 model Trigger adjusted to 2 lbs.
SWFA 6x. Med UM rings and stance 7 or 9
Pic is in in factory stock. Very grip and matching 11 degree negative comb.

Same set up in 2 different RS had both shooting 2.7”
It’s a work in progress and I plan on using this action in the 6 different Tikka stocks I have available to me to see what I like.
My buddy just shipped his back due to recoil lug issues causing the action to rock/pivot.

However this was one of the earlier manufactured rokstocks that needed the recoil lug changed. He just recently got a Tikka action to put in the stock and discovered the problem. I thought the newer ones had remedied this issue.

I have 3 RS's. All Tikka. I like them. I had one crack at the handle, and UM swapped it out ASAP (I think I had it within 5 days, and that was over a weekend and because I had them put a LOP spacer in. Just so happened mine was std carbon and no rail, and they had one in stock. Only other issues I have had are the OEM bottom metal fitting a bit weird and having to "sand" the action bolts because they penetrate too far. Other than that, happy with them.

Looks like a few months ago there were people swapping rings heights for better fittment. Should I just go ahead and get some rings on back order or wait? Tikka with UM rings. I need to measure what height I got, order isn’t showing up in my history but pretty sure I have lows.

I can shoot perfectly fine with lows, mediums, and highs. Getting the ring height “just so” is 100% blown out of proportion here

I’d buy mediums and lows and see which you prefer then sell the other set. Remember to test them from how you’ll hunt and not just on a table setting up your scope 👍🏻

Might have too. Just don’t want to piss away more money with the intent on selling a set of rings if I don’t need them. Also don’t want to wait then end up waiting multiple more weeks or months waiting for the height I need to become available.

Anyone in SE Idaho with a Rok Stock and an SWFA or Maven scope they’d let a guy get behind at the range?

If you find you need them, I am pretty sure I still have two sets of mediums that I bought before discovering I like lows better. Might be able to work out a trade or sale.

I'm in the Star Valley (Etna), probably not far from you. Have all the goodies in the shop here and a range next door.

For those running the Spartan Bipod with your Rokstock did you use the Trinity Rail? Or use some other adapter on the Pic rail?

Where on the handle was the crack?

I’m using the Trinity rail, but I’m not super happy with it. The Spartan mount and the QD mount are too close together to use both. The picatinny mount portion is too short (in my opinion).

If you aren’t using the picatinny portion, then the Spartan mount and sling stud end up being quite a bit too far back. Understanding those limitations, if you have a good idea what you want to use with it, then the Trinity rail is a fine option. If I was starting over again, I wouldn’t get a Trinity rail. I would use the Classic Rifle Adapter.

If I could find another similar mount that could replace the Trinity rail using the same mounting points, I would take off the Trinity rail and replace it with that.

I cannot mount my Spartan bipod on the rifle while using the QD mount for a sling.

Ah. I read what you wrote incorrectly. Interesting that you are the first person I have heard of bringing that issue up.

An MDT bipod doesn’t fit on the picatinny portion.

You can, it just won’t have both cross bolts through pic rail- correct?

Correct - both bolts won’t fit through the picatinny rail. Which made it unstable when I tried it. The rounded front on the Trinity rail means that it only fits on one rail.

I ordered a couple of sling mount bolts so I can use a different mounting mechanism for my sling. I don’t really need the QD mount on it, but it is annoying to have it and not be able to use it at the same time as the Spartan mount.

I understand on the sling QD. I will talk with them about a possible update for it. For the MDT, while understandable, the mount wasn’t made for the MDT really- that’s a large platform attachment. There are tradeoffs in all things, and the trinity prioritized lightweight, and compact for hunting.

I completely agree with tradeoffs and appreciate your efforts with improving it. This is something I already sent a PM to SRS about (just a couple of days ago).

This was a discounted Rokstok that someone else rejected. So I didn’t get to order it exactly the way I wanted it, but I got it much sooner and saved some money. That’s resulted in some compromises on my part, but I am not complaining.

I will add - without any rancor or bitterness - that I only bought the MDT GRND-POD because Alex, the salesman, who no longer works at UM, as far as I know, recommended it as the ideal bipod for my Rokstok with the Trinity rail. If I had bought it from UM, I would have returned it. As it is, I will either use it on another rifle or sell it.
