Good looking color scheme!
Did you tape around your scope caps? I assume that's to prevent water, has that been a real issue? (Asking cuz I'm in build mode for Alaska in Aug).DIY sponge. Spacing/blotch size inspired by Peak44 pics.
Thanks! It all came together great, now i just have to knock some animals down with it! Its my first wildcat cartridgeGood looking color scheme!
If you want a look Like this the green scotch pads work great imo. What is the best sponge pack to buy for DIY?
ArcaWhich integrated front rail is this, Arca?
Yes, with 3M electrical tape. E-tape will secure the cap from moving or rotating + keep water out.Did you tape around your scope caps? I assume that's to prevent water, has that been a real issue? (Asking cuz I'm in build mode for Alaska in Aug).
I use Testors .25 oz flat enamel paint and artist sea sponges you can buy from craft stores or Amazon. A small amount of paint (doesn't take much) can be poured onto a section of tinfoil or wax paper, then press the face of the sponge to evenly absorb the paint before blotching the stock. 2 little bottles and a couple sponges are less than $15 and can do several stocks. Just cut the paint area from the sponge with a scissors after it dries and start new. What is the best sponge pack to buy for DIY?
Shoot one and the you'll see the beauty in the function.I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but they are the fugliest looking stocks I have ever seen. I keep trying to like them, but can’t.
thanks for sharing your tips, techniques, and materials. looking at your stock, was that bare carbon from UM? what did you do to prep the stock for painting?Yes, with 3M electrical tape. E-tape will secure the cap from moving or rotating + keep water out.

Tips: Be sure to study the pattern you want to copy (Manners, Peak44, whatever) - count the alternating or overlapping colors and note the spacing and scale of each blotch. I separate and alternate 2 colors @ 5 & 4 blotches each per side and favor a narrow face on a small sponge (don't go too big and too wide). Paint your 4-location color first. Though subjective, think carefully about 2 vs 3 or more colors cuz things can get crowded real quick. I see a lot of DIY jobs that blotch too big and too close together. If you want the paint to offer a rubbery grip, use acrylic.
wnelson's idea looks cool!
Hope this helps!
[Edit to specify that there are sponge patterns that separate/space 2 alternating colors (Peak44), and patterns where color #2 overlaps color #1 (Manners).]

Thank you. Did you “seal” it with a matte clear coat or anything?Yes, stock order was bare carbon. For prep I used isopropyl alcohol to wet a cotton t-shirt rag and wiped down the stock surface. A smarter approach would be to use trisodium phosphate powder mixed in water. [Same, wipe down with cotton rag.]
Am not a paint expert but am confident the method will hold up well enough.
I have a can of Krylon satin acrylic spray to cover the sponge locations. Might be better options but better enough for my standards + it does not turn yellow.Thank you. Did you “seal” it with a matte clear coat or anything?
I asked for a three color sponge with green brown and tan. Originally got two stocks in this, recently picked up a third and asked for the exact same thing. I’m a sucker for sponge pattern.

I too am now in the cool kids club. A true rokslide special, barrel, optic and RokStok purchased from classifieds. Finally shot it yesterday it was everything I was hoping it would be.
I don’t know for sure which colors were used, but I asked for tan, brown, and green sponge pattern. You could send those photos in and they can try to match it best they canDo you know exactly what colors and pattern this is? It looks great!
