I built a garage gym a couple of years ago. I ordered a bunch of stuff from rogue but nothing for plate storage. Storing plates on the floor sucks so eventually I started looking at options. You can get cheap crap or expensive. I really liked the stringer style storage racks that rogue makes but they are very expensive by the time you buy 4 of them and add on the posts. Its was going to be like $400. I just couldn't justify that. So instead I copied their design and made it out of wood. I laminated 2x10s together before milling them to length and width. I used a dado on an old radial arm saw to mill the back face to a 5 degree angle. Then I just sanded everything clean and routered the corners. Drilled the appropriate sized holes to accept poplar dowels and counter sunk holes for lag bolts to mount to the wall. The only part I was concerned about is the single peg that holds 3 45s. I figured I climb a peg board with my entire body weight on a single peg at a time so it would probably be ok. Given I am applying load to a 6 inch climbing peg and not a 12 inch one. I glued that peg in to improve strength and keep it from potentially wallering out the hole over time. I left the other pegs unglued so I could change lengths if I wanted. Of course I could store one of the 45s on the peg with a single 35 but I don't like having to pull plates from behind other plates. It has all been in use for a few weeks now and I love it. No issues and it so much better than having them on the floor.
Total cost $66
Wood $30
Dowel $20
16 5.5" lag screws at TSC $16
Even building stuff yourself isn't super cheap these days.
