Hey friends,

To those who have killed a sheep what was your pack out weight like?

Not sure if I am boning it out yet. Depends on where it gets killed (fingers crossed) and how heinous the packout will be. I prefer to leave it on the bone if I can. I know the size CO rams I am after average 200lbs-250lbs. I've heard people say expect a #150 packout with the cape and horns and bone in meat. That seems a little steep to me for an animal that's live weight is around #200. But let me know your honest opinions.

Here's my guess:

Horns/Cape, Bone-in Packout Weight: #120-130

Horns/Cape, Deboned Packout Weight: #100-110

Thanks
JS

Shoulder mount cape or full size? Personally I don’t think a full bighorn bone in or out, single trip would be feasible for myself. Could definitely save some pack out weight salting and drying your cape for a day before packing out. Wet capes weigh a lot. Meat I’d estimate 60-80lbs maybe more but those horns get heavy. My euro mount bighorn skull weighs 22lbs cleaned and dried for reference. Would guess it’s in the 30lb range wet plus cape weight. Add in all the gear you’re carrying when you kill it I don’t think 150lb is far off. Horses are sure helpful 😂IMG_0859.jpeg
