Hey guys... I've been wanting to give them a try. After some research I found to stay away from the Trophy Ridge version and stick with the original Rocket version with the black ferrule. I picked up 6 on ebay for 24.99 shipped.
They passed the spin test right out of the package and the blades were sharp enough to shave arm hair. I shot them last night and they flew great. They arent much bigger than a field tip and they were spot on at 70 yds. With the short, steel ferrule, they seem to be stout. From my limited testing, they seem like they could be a viable option for bigger game like elk. I am not a huge fan of the rubber band retention system, but it seems to keep the blades tight in flight even at 300+ fps.
I am still a fan of fixed blade heads and plan on shooting a fixed blade this year. I just wanted to post my thoughts in case someone is looking for a quality mechanical that shoots like a field point.
I was just curious if anyone has first hand experience taking an animal with these heads? How do the rubber bands hold up in the cold, like snowy conditions in late November?
